Asenze is a Research Project based at the Centre for Rural Health within the School of Nursing and Public Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. This study is conducted in collaboration with the University of Columbia and is funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH). 
 
The Asenze study is in its 5th wave (3-year grant) with a current focus on the transition of the adolescent cohort into young adulthood. The study aims to investigate the ongoing impact of changes in the social determinants of health (SDOH) on the mental health of the adolescent/young adult cohort and their primary caregivers.
 
The project is looking to employ 2  field-based interviewers, who will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to trace, consent, and interview participants (telephonically and in-person); provide referrals to services where required and other data collection-related activities.
 
This appointment is based at the site office, based in Bothas Hill, KZN. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting home based tracing and interviewing of participants.  The project work week runs from Tuesday to Saturday. 
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Senior certificate
  • 3 years of relevant experience in working within a research environment.
  • Experience conducting psycho-social assessments/interviews with young people / adolescents and their families,
  • Experiences in conducting  door-to-door data collection activities
  • Experience in using electronic data collection software such as RedCap,  OpenClinica, Mobenzi or similar 
  • Fluency in Zulu and English
 
Advantages
  • Experience working within the Valley of 1000 hills region. 
  • Drivers license.
 
The project does not cover any relocation costs. This post reports to the Fieldwork Coordinator.

ASENZE PROJECT
 
Asenze is a Research Project based at the Centre for Rural Health within the School of Nursing and Public Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. This study is conducted in collaboration with the University of Columbia and is funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH). 
 
The Asenze study is in its 5th wave (a 3-year grant) with a current focus on the transition of the adolescent cohort into young adulthood. The study aims to investigate the ongoing impact of changes in the social determinants of health (SDOH) on the mental health of the adolescent/young adult cohort and their primary caregivers.
 
The project is looking to appoint a researcher to work with the study team to analyse data, publish research outputs, and support the implementation of the primary grant and sub-studies as required. 
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • A Masters degree, with a background in Neuroscience/ Research Psychology/Epidemiology or similar.
  • Relevant research experience of at least 5 years.
  • Research experience in Neuropsychology in South Africa.
  • Experience in data analysis using STATA/SPSS.
  • Experience working with longitudinal data.

The incumbent will engage in individual and group interventions that endorse and support the holistic and optimal development and well-being of students from the College of Law & Management Studies. Key interventions include face-to-face and online individual psychotherapy and counselling across campuses, facilitation of life skills workshops, and career, academic, and psychosocial counselling. 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
 Relevant Master's degree in Psychology (i.e. Counselling, Clinical, Educational) 
 Current registration as an independent practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa 
 Minimum one year's experience as a registered psychologist (internship year included) or one year's relevant experience in a higher education context.

The School of Health Sciences wishes to appoint an Academics who will contribute actively to undergraduate teaching and learning in the B. of Oral Hygiene Program, and postgraduate supervision, research and community engagement. Candidates will be required to do administration such as module coordination and clinical supervision.                        
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
Minimum Requirements:
  • All applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Oral Hygiene;
  • A Master’s degree qualification in the field of Dental Sciences;
  • A relevant PhD degree in the field of Dental Sciences as an Advantage for Lecturer / Requirement for Senior Lecturer level; 
  • Experience in teaching Oral Hygiene students at a tertiary institution;
  • Competence and at least 2-year experience in facilitating learning and assessments as an Advantage for Lecturer / Requirement for Senior Lecturer leve;l
  • Appropriate clinical experience, clinical supervision of students will be an advantage;
  • Competence in postgraduate supervision and a track record of publications as an Advantage for Lecturer / Requirement for Senior Lecturer level;
  • Evidence of presentation at conferences as an advantage for lecturer level and application of research grants at senior lecturer level;
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages (especially Excel and PowerPoint);
  •  Valid code 08 driver’s license;

Essential Requirements: 
  • Must be able to perform and supervise all aspects of specialized skills within the scope of practice of the Oral Hygienist.  
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
