FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship 2024

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Livestock and Pasture Science, Faculty of Science and Agriculture, at the University of Fort Hare (UFH), Alice Campus, South Africa. The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain research and innovation experience at a higher education institution. The fellowship is awarded competitively, considering the applicants' academic achievements, publication outputs, research potential, and the relevance of prior experience and expertise in Livestock disease economic modeling, zoonosis, and/or Veterinary Sciences. The fellowship is available for one year but is renewable, subject to the candidate's performance and availability of funds.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Applicants must have completed their doctoral degrees within the last five years.
Must have graduated with a PhD degree in Veterinary Science, Veterinary epidemiology and Development Studies, or Economics
Should be an expert in conducting cross-disciplinary research on developmental issues.
Alternatively, should be an expert who can quantify food (meat/milk) losses in the food value chain and possess skills in animal disease modeling.
Preference is given to Women, South African Citizens, and SA Permanent Residents.
Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFH Alice campus for the duration of the fellowship.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

Conduct innovative research on Livestock disease modeling, zoonosis, and antimicrobial drug resistance.
Demonstrate relevant experience, understanding, and knowledge of Python and other statistical analytical tools.
Contribute to the research productivity of the postgraduate students and the Department of Livestock and Pasture Science.
Publish at least three (3) journal articles in DHET-accredited journals per annum.

VALUE OF THE FELLOWSHIP R300, 000 annual fellowship

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Relevant Bachelor’s degree
Three (3) years’ work experience in the Higher Education Sector as an Administrator or Coordinator.
Excellent knowledge of ITS, MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.

Bachelor’s in Law or Administration
Project Management, budgeting, finance, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation skills.
Advanced ICT end-user skills.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Coordinate the effective curriculum delivery, the achievement of programme goals, learning outcomes and the meeting of specific targets and benchmarks.
Innovate and lead the formulation of plans and strategies that respond to the developmental needs of students.
Effectively manage the ECP budget.
Consistently provide weekly, monthly, and annual reports to the Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Law in a manner that seeks to respond to the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Faculty of Law.
Promote the professional development of staff to guarantee the provision of support to students enrolled for the LLB Extended Programme.
Make clear, accurate and lucid weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and related targets.
Organize regular meetings, seminars, and workshops for academic, support and student development.
