FACULTY OF LAW 


Deputy Dean: Teaching and Learning and Research 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Doctoral Degree in the Law Discipline
  • Currently at the academic rank level of Professor or Associate Professor.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a higher education environment.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a leadership position in an academic environment.
  • A track record of DHET-accredited research publications commensurate with the academic rank level.
  • Knowledge of the Faculty of Law diverse range of qualifications, the University’s (UFH) policies, rules, and regulations related to teaching, learning and research.
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision, especially in Doctoral Degrees.
Added Requirements 
  • Evidence of fundraising and generating external research grants funding from 3rd stream sources.
  • Demonstrable experience in report reviewing and writing.
  • Knowledge of the national higher education landscape.
  • Membership of a professional body or scientific institution.
  • Knowledge of national and international funding agencies, current research strategies and policies.
 
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 
  • Knowledge of national and international funding agencies, current research strategies and policies.
  • Providing intellectual and academic leadership in the Faculty of Law.
  • Providing the necessary support in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the strategic direction of the University and Faculty.
  • Spearheading awareness within the Faculty of Law on the existing or future changes, challenges, and opportunities within the Higher Education (HE) sector, strategic direction and imperatives of the University and Faculty.
  • Supporting the Dean in driving and ensuring proper compliance in respect of quality teaching and learning, research, community engagement and academic citizenship within the Faculty of Law and providing the necessary interventions when necessary.
  • Supporting the Dean in conceptualizing, examining, implementing, and reviewing the academic standards, processes, systems, and procedures at both the Faculty and departmental levels. 
 
COMPETENCIES: 
  • Demonstrable track record of engagement with teaching and learning theory or theories and in curriculum development.
  • Proven experience in managing or administering a Faculty Department, Academic Facility, Directorate or Unit.
  • A track record in capacity building or development would be advantageous.
  • The ability to review, develop and design academic modules, programmes or curricular would be an advantage.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The Deputy Dean will, where possible, support the Dean in carrying out the following responsibilities: 
  • Raising funds (fund-raising) for specific initiatives of the Faculty of Law and establish collaborations with relevant national and international bodies or institutions to improve science/knowledge production within the faculty.
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the Faculty of Law in respect of the students or student-related affairs: admissions, registrations, curriculum approvals, examinations, and graduation.
  • Supporting the Dean in establishing areas of responsibility associated with leading and managing the work of the Faculty of Law and that of the departments.
  • Participating and encouraging participation in the various University and Faculty Committees and being available to chair or lead some of the committees when nominated.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
To support the strategy of renewal, the University of Fort Hare seeks to appoint a dynamic, decisive, and role model for the position of a New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) Lecturer in Speech Language Pathology in the Department of Natural and Rehabilitative Sciences. The primary responsibilities of the nGAP Lecturer are to strengthen teaching and learning, as well as capacitation of the Speech Language Pathology Department.
 
The nGAP enhances the transformation and capacity needs of the University. The successful candidate will participate in a 6-year comprehensive development and induction programme, after which they will continue as a permanent, and regular academic staff member.
 
Reporting directly to the Head of Department, the incumbent will be responsible for Research in Speech-Language Pathology, Research supervision of undergraduate students, Community Engagement, Administration, Teaching Speech-Language Pathology modules as well as Clinical supervision. The position is developmental; the incumbent is expected to obtain a doctorate within the first five years of appointment. The candidate is also expected to undertake and participate in professional development in teaching and learning in the higher education context.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
  • A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology/ECI/ AAC with an average of 70% (coursework and/or dissertation)
  • Professional registration with the HPCSA as a speech therapist
  • At least one year of experience in higher education or undergraduate teaching or clinical supervision experience in Speech Language Pathology

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Administrator are to provide financial, administrative, confidential document administration, and systems related duties for senior institutional leadership.
 
Reporting directly to the Director: International Affairs and Partnerships, the incumbent will provide administrative support to the Director. The support covers a wide range of administrative tasks that include managing incoming documents, emails and phone calls, scheduling meetings, writing minutes of meetings, making travel arrangements, making accommodation bookings, processing procurement requisitions, compiling information for institutional reports, organizing institutional events and coordinating activities or projects undertaken by the Director’s Office.

Reporting directly to the Manager: International Office, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and executing smooth administration & for monitoring compliance with legislation and rules.
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREA 

Internationalisation Compliance Coordination
  • Provide immigration advice and support to international students, researchers and staff
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and institutional rules governing internationalisation.
  • Liaise with consulates, internal departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Draft study permit letters, compliance reports, and update relevant media and websites.
  • Track and report on compliance indicators internally and externally in line with regulations and rules.
  • Resolve queries and escalate non-compliance issues as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Qualification in Office Management/Administration or in a related field (NQF level 7).
  • 3 years’ experience in Office Management and Administration Support
 
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Provides Confidential Document Administration support
  • Execute data entry into systems & spreadsheets
  • Provides Secretarial, Meeting and General Office Administration support
  • Coordinates senior leadership diaries for the alignment of meetings and various engagements
  • Stays abreast of statutory & best practice requirements to ensure document management compliance

Position: Executive Operations Manager (P6)

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering/ Land and Property Development Management
  • 6 years’ experience in an infrastructure maintenance and delivery environment
  • 3 years leadership experience at a supervisory level

ADDED ADVANTAGE
  • Professional registration with ECSA/ PPRA
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Understanding of ICT setups in a Higher Education environment
  • Advanced technology experience in Office tools such as 0365, MS Visio, MS project, PowerBI
  • Understanding of IT Project Management in the Higher Education environment
  KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Monitors programs & projects outcomes on behalf of Executive Leadership
  • Reports on the performance & functioning of the Executive's Office
  • Manages the execution of divisional plans, budget & performance measures
  • Develops and oversees the implementation and evaluation of administrative practices, systems and procedures to optimize efficiency
  • Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate structures and systems for effective and efficient administration
