UMALUSI
 
Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training is a statutory Quality Council which quality assures education provision in General and Further Education and Training. This body seeks to appoint suitable persons with the relevant qualifications and experience to the following posts. The Council intends to promote representivity through the filling of these posts.
 


ASSISTANT MANAGER: QUALITY ASSURANCE OF ASSESSMENT (TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING)

Requirements
An appropriate recognised 3 or 4 year higher education qualification and a teaching qualification ? At least 3-5 years’ experience as an educator in the technical and vocational education and training sector and 3 years managerial experience in education? Extensive knowledge of and insight into curriculum and assessment policy and legislation relating to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector ? Knowledge and understanding of Umalusi legislative mandate ? Experience in teaching and assessment of Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N2-N3 and the National Certificate (Vocational) Level 2-4 ? Knowledge and experience in the quality assurance processes and procedures for national examinations and assessment practices ? Computer literacy ? A valid driver’s licence
 
Primary Duties: Develop and monitor the enforcement of quality assurance of assessment policies, examination policies and regulations to ensure credible internal assessment and examinations for technical and vocational qualifications registered on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Sub-framework (GFETQSF) ? Coordinate the moderation of examination question papers ? Coordinate the moderation of the conduct of Integrated Summative assessment tasks (ISAT) and the moderation of the reviewed ISAT/PAT ?Coordinate the verification of marking for all examination cycles ? Participate in the recruitment and training of contract workers ?Develop reports on all the quality assurance of assessment processes ?Build and maintain stakeholder relationships to ensure the implementation and management of the quality assurance of internal and external assessment processes in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training sector.
 
Competencies and skills: Knowledge of quality assurance in education and training. Present good quality work, be self-managing and a team player. Possess good communication, project management, planning, execution, technical, report writing, good interpersonal, facilitation and co-ordination as well as computer skills.

ASSISTANT MANAGER: QUALITY ASSURANCE OF ASSESSMENT-SCHOOLS QUALIFICATION

Requirements: An appropriate 3 or 4 year higher education qualification and a teaching qualification. At least 3-5 years’ experience in the education sector and 3 years managerial experience (minimum departmental head or education specialist). Extensive knowledge of and insight into policy and legislation relating to the General and Further Education and Training. Knowledge of the National Senior Certificate/Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). Experience in teaching and assessment of the National Curriculum Statement (NCS). Knowledge and experience in the quality assurance processes and procedures for national examinations and assessment practices. Computer literacy. A valid driver’s licence.

Coordinate the moderation of the conduct of School Based Assessment. Coordinate the verification of marking for all examination cycles. Develop reports on all the quality assurance of assessment processes. Build and maintain stakeholder relationships to ensure the implementation and management of the quality assurance of internal and external assessment processes in the schools sector.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPER (NATURAL/ADABAS)

Requirements
 
Requirements: • Three( 3) national diploma in Information and Communication Technology (Software Development) and/or equivalent qualification • 5 years appropriate practical ICT experience in programming, software design and development, implementation and maintenance • Must have a minimum of 3 years software development experience using Natural/Adabas • Good knowledge of Natural/Adabas utilities and tools • Knowledge of Adabas database and database design
 
Primary Duties: • Analyse, design, develop and maintain mainframe Information and Communication Technology systems using Natural/Adabas • Team player in a small development/maintenance team • System analysis and design • Facilitate and lead JAD sessions • Testing of systems • Provide training to end users • The applicant must be able to work under pressure and meet very strict deadlines (from time to time it might be required of you to work outside normal working hours and on public holidays) • Monthly progress reporting on assigned activities • Presentation, communication, writing and administrative skills.
 
Additional advantages and Skills: Completed a recognised Natural Programming course •Completed a Natural One course or have experience with this IDE will be an advantage • Sound knowledge of system development and systems analysis • Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals which include: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint; MS Outlook. • Knowledge and understanding of the rules/regulations and the certification/examination processes for the National Senior certificate, National Certificate Vocational and GET certificate will be an advantage.
