EXTERNAL VACANCY
 
The Municipality seeks to appoint a suitably qualified person to the following position within the WATER SERVICES DEPARTMENT: 
 
AREA MANAGER SOUTH: WATER & SANITATION 
Total Cost to Employer: R 1 187 355.10 pa 
 
Reporting to the Senior Manager: Water Services Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following, inter alia: 
  • Identifies with the broad service delivery strategy with respect to key functional areas, implements and monitors the short term plans objectives 
  • Analyzing service delivery trends and capacity requirements and submits reports supporting specific provisions during the preparation of capital and operational expenditure estimates to support plans and objectives associated with operations and maintenance for consideration 
  • Directs and controls the key performance Indicators and outcomes of personnel within the operation and maintenance section 
  • Implements procedures, systems and controls to regulate work sequences/operations associated with functionality 
  • Manages key performance areas and outcomes associated with the delivery of basic /essential services 
  • Coordinates administrative and reporting requirements 
  • Management of all the Municipality’s regional water and sanitation schemes in their area 
  • Designing and implementation of Water and Sanitation programmes in their area 
  • Implementation of special programmes such as drought relief and emergency water supply 
  • Liaison with all stakeholders in the provision of Municipal services 
  • Ensuring that relevant legislation is adhered to 
 
Requirements:
  • A valid grade 12 Certificate 
  • Applicants should be in possession of a National Diploma or BSc / BTech Degree in the following fields;- Civil or Mechanical or Chemical or Electrical Engineering Qualification 
  • Applicants should be registered as a Professional Engineer / Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) 
  • A minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in a Water & Sanitation environment and 2 years of which should be at the management level 
  • Applicants must be willing to work extraordinary hours 
  • Proficiency in English and isiZulu is mandatory 
  • A valid code B driver’s licence
