SENIOR LECTURER: NORTHERN SOTHO
DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED LANGUAGES

The Department of Applied Languages has a vacant permanent position of a Senior Lecturer with Specialisation in Northern Sotho at the Soshanguve South Campus. 
 
Key performance areas/Core functions: 
  • Lecturing Northern Sotho at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 
  • Developing materials and recommending appropriate technologies. 
  • Co-ordinating subjects and research activities. 
  • Supervising and assessing Master’s and Doctoral students. 
  • Liaising with industry and community engagement. 
  • Assisting in providing innovative academic leadership and contributing to staff development. 
  • Co-operating with departments offering Language Practice programmes at other institutions, and industry, towards the development and promotion of previously marginalized South African languages. 
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the Use of Official Languages, as well as the South African Language Practitioners' Acts. 
  • Taking part in the intellectual and public life of the Department and University. 
  • Any other reasonable duties, as may be assigned by the Head of Department. 
 
Minimum Requirements 
Academic Qualifications 
  • NQF Level 10 doctoral qualification in Language Practice, African Languages, Linguistics, or an equivalent qualification. 
 
Experience
  • Three years of teaching/lecturing experience, part of which should be at the tertiary. 
  • To include industry experience in an educational or another language-related field. 
  • Ability to teach two or more courses offered in the department. 
  • A reasonable track record of conference presentations and publishing in accredited scientific and/or scholarly journals in line with the TUT scoresheet. 
 
Recommendation
Literature or Language and Translation Theory and the ability to offer forensic and/or computational linguistics courses would be an added advantage, including registration with professional bodies.

The Department of Primary Education in the Faculty of Humanities has a Senior Lecturer position at the Soshanguve North campus.
 
Key performance areas/Core functions: 
  • To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels 
  • To participate in research and community projects in the Department 
  • To liaise with schools and related learning communities inside and outside the University. 
  • To participate in departmental administration activities, including registration, orientation, awards, and Funza Lusaka bursary allocation 
  • To promote excellence and quality in teaching and learning, community engagements, and research activities 
  • To participate in marketing and recruitment strategies of the Department 
  • To develop and design teaching and learning materials and lead programme teams according to The Minimum Requirements for Teacher 
  • To participate in relevant training activities for professional development 
  • To assist the Department in always complying with internal and external regulatory bodies' requests when necessary. 
 
Minimum requirements: 
Academic qualifications: 
  • NQF Level 10 doctoral degree in Education with specialization in Foundation Phase Mathematics and Assessment in the General Education and Training (GET) Bands. 
 
Experience: 
  • Candidates must have adequate and relevant teaching experience in their GET band teaching Foundation Phase Mathematics 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of lecturing experience including teaching foundation phase particularly mathematics at a Higher Education Institution. 
 
Knowledge and Skills 
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office 
  • Competent in ITS and MIS administration systems 
 
Registration with professional body (if applicable): 
  • Attendance of the license to teach program for newly appointed lecturers. 
  • Passionate about working with students in a nurturing and coaching manner.

TUTORS/ STUDENT ASSISTANTS X 7
FACULTY OF SCIENCE: DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The Faculty of Science: Department of Chemistry has part time positions for Tutors/Student Assistants X 7 at Pretoria (Arcadia) and eMalahleni Campus. 
 
Critical Performance Areas 
• Assist undergraduate students with Chemistry modules for tutoring and guidance.
• Assist in preparation of reagents for undergraduate practical class and filed trips and marking. 
• Conduct pre-lab briefing and assist students in the laboratory. 
• Conduct contact tutorials in the classroom and on MyTUT or Bright space. 
• Support and guide students on the use of Brightspace tools. 
• Provide feedback to students on academic activities and respond timeously to students queries. 
• Track attendance and monitor students’s performance. 
• Report on student analytics and continuously track students who are at risk on time for early intervention. 
 
Minimum Requirements 
• Postgraduate students with at least a relevant Master’s Degree in Chemistry/ B-Tech Degree in Chemistry/ Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry/ Advanced Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or registered students in Advanced Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry. 
• Preference will be given to Postgraduate students, who are academically excelled in their undergraduate studies. 
• Experience as a Tutor will be an added advantage. 
• Proficiency in Ms Office and other computer programmes. 
• Full proficiency in English is a pre-requisite. 
• Preference will be given to South African registered students. 
• Use of Brightspace LMS.
