The Department of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering require the services of a part-time lecturer for a period of 34 weeks (Starting end January 2025). The part-time lecturer will be required to teach the subject Plastics Materials Science II (PMI307B), which is a module in the degree program BEng Tech in Materials Engineering in Polymer Technology. The subject consists of theory and practical components.
Minimum Requirements
• Undergraduate qualification: National Diploma or BTech in Polymer Technology; BEng in Polymer Technology
• Postgraduate qualification: A Master’s Degree (MEng/MSc/MTech) with specialization in Plastics Material Science.
• 3 years relevant teaching experience at Tertiary level and/or 3 years experience in industry.
Critical performance areas:
• Preparing and conducting lectures in the Plastics Conversion II module for both the theory and practical components, as per timetable.
• Assessment/development of the ECSA Graduate Attributes related to the module.
• Standard academic duties and responsibilities.
• Evaluating students on a continuous basis as well as administering tests and assignments according to study guides using a multimodal learning approach.
• Setting and marking of assessments and exams.
• Conducting practicals associated with this module
• Participating in departmental meetings and subject meetings.
• General administration such as capturing test and assignment marks on IT System, uploading documents on the Learning Management System (D2L Brightspace) and compiling of subject file(s).
• Student consultation.
Knowledge and skills
• Experience with BEng Tech-Metallurgical Engineering curriculum and assessment of GAs • Training skills relating to the broad Engineering Spectrum • Experience in entering of marks and printing of class list. • Computer Literacy.
