FACULTY OF HUMANITIES: DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED LANGUAGES

The department of Applied Languages requires the services of Extra-Marker for second semester subjects for the 2025 academic year.
INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit together with the CVs, a standardized application form available from the university intranet as well as recently certified copies of qualifications and identity documents. Failure to comply with this instruction will disqualify the candidate. Further, note that candidates may be expected to make a presentation or undergo competency testing.
 
Year subjects:
  • Communication for Academic Purposes I (CAP105X) year module
  • Communication for Academic Purposes I (CCU105D) year module
 
Key performance areas:
• Presenting lectures and assessing students in various subjects (Day classes);
• Be responsible for administrative tasks relating to Teaching and Learning;
• Involvement in departmental community projects;
• Compile and maintain quality study guides, subject files and other relevant Teaching and Learning material;
• Liaise with industry regarding WIL matters;
• Attend departmental meetings as required by the Faculty;
• Setting and marking all assessments;
• General administrative duties such as capturing of test and assignment marks on the ITS system and uploading documents on BrightSpace;
• Consultation with students.
 
Minimum requirements:
 
Academic qualifications:
• A Master’s degree in Applied Languages or equivalent.
• A qualification in Higher Education will be an advantage.
 
Experience:
• At least 2 years teaching experience at a tertiary institution is a requirement.
• Evidence of engagement in scientific research and publications in DHET accredited journals will be an added advantage.
• Registration with a professional body (if applicable).
 
 
Successful applicants only receive a part-time salary according to TUT Policy. No additional remuneration for travel, relocation, etc.

​PART-TIME LECTURER X 2: COMMUNICATION FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES

Faculty of Arts and Design’s office of the Dean seeks to appoint 2 Part-time Lecturers to lecture English Communication Skills and Communication for Academic Purposes to First Year students.
 
Key Functions:
The candidate must be able to:
• provide teaching and create learning opportunities with the integration of technology as part of teaching and learning strategies in different languages;
• be responsible for administrative tasks related to (but not limited to) teaching and learning, such as setting and marking of assessments,
• maintaining a module portfolio file and capturing marks;
• compile and maintain quality study guides, examination question papers, and memoranda;
• upload module content on myTUTor;
• be actively involved in departmental activities;
• attend departmental and module meetings per invitation;
• complete the TUT Teaching for Learning Academic Induction Programme;
• attend training on the TUT Learning Management System; and
• perform any other duty assigned by the Head of Department, Section Head, or Module Coordinator.
 
Minimum Requirements
• Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Advanced presentation skills.
 
Academic Qualifications:
• A Master’s Degree in Language Practice, African Languages, Linguistics, English or any equivalent relevant qualification
• A Doctoral Degree in any of the above-mentioned qualifications will be an added advantage.
 
Experience:
• Three years lecturing experience within Higher Education is required.
• Full proficiency in the language of teaching is mandatory.
• Paper presentation(s) in local seminars or conferences and publication(s) in DHET accredited journals will also be an added advantage.
• Advanced presentation skills.
• Proven ability in using teaching technology.

The Department of MSBE in the Faculty of Humanities seeks to appoint one part-time Chemistry Laboratory Assistant for a period of 4 months at the Soshanguve North Campus
 
Key performance areas/Core functions:
• Preparation of experiments for practical work, for BEd and/or ACE students.
• Order consumables/equipment for practical experiments.
• Supervise and assist students during practical work and conduct limited practical sessions in well-defined areas.
• Instruct students on all aspects of safety.
• Assist academic staff with supervision of practical work done by students for experiential learning.
• Maintain laboratories and facilities.
 
Academic qualifications:
• A Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) or relevant equivalent qualification with
Chemistry as a major as well as Physics and Biology as minors.
• An education degree will be an added advantage
• Must have done at least level one Mathematics at University
 
Experience:
• 2 years of laboratory experience in a Science Teaching Laboratory
 
Knowledge and skills required:
• Occupational Health and Safety
• Laboratory Management
• SHE requirements and policies
• GLP (Good Laboratory Practice)
• Computer literacy
