The Department of Design Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Design has a Part-Time positions for Lecturer at Arts Campus.  
 
Core functions:
  • Teaching, Learning and Assessment for Theory and Practical modules at advanced and postgraduate diploma levels.
  • Production planning and execution of practical driven by research gaps in sizing.
  • Apply LMS as a tool for teaching and learning.
 
Minimum Requirements
  • A PhD in Fashion or a Masters Degree in Design Studies with a specialisation in ether Fashion Design Technology or Design & Management.
  • Ability to use LMS (Brightspace).
 
Experience:
  • Experience in teaching at tertiary level (preferably in the university) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in research and curriculum development (Design Studies).
  • Experience working in a research-related environment.

PART-TIME LECTURER X1 (2023)
Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment
Department of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering  
Pretoria West Campus

The Department of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering require the services of a part-time lecturer for a period of 30 weeks (Starting March 2023). The part-time lecturer will be required to teach the subject Plastics Technology (PTY105B), which is a module in the degree program BEng Tech in Materials Polymer Technology. The subject consists of theory and practical components.           
 
Minimum Requirements
  • BEng/BSc/BTech in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Polymer Technology. 
  • A Master’s Degree (MEng/MSc/MTech) with specialization in Plastics Materials Science and Engineering or Polymer Processing.
  • Industrial/Teaching experience in Polymer Technology, Plastics Materials Science and Engineering or Plastics Processing an added advantage.
 
Critical performance areas:
  • Preparing and conducting lectures in the Plastic Technology module for both the theory and practical components as per timetable.
  • Standard academic duties and responsibilities.
  • Evaluating students on a continuous basis as well as administering tests and assignments according to study guides using a multimodal learning approach. 
  • Setting and marking of assessments and exams.
  • Sensitizing of Graduate Attributes specific to Plastics Technology  
  • Participating in departmental meetings and subject meetings.
  • General administration such as capturing test and assignment marks on IT System, uploading documents on the Learning Management System (D2L Brightspace) and compiling of subject file(s).
  • Student consultation.
 
Knowledge and skills
  • At least 1-year teaching or tutoring experience at a tertiary institution or 2-years’ experience in the polymer industry.
  • Experience concerning management of academic matters, quality of program, student affairs, human resources, facilities and research projects.
  • Experience with the ITS system (entering of marks, printing of class list) an added advantage.
  • Registration with a Professional Body will be an advantage to be considered 
 
 
Working hours: 15 hours/ week for 30 weeks
