Position Purpose
To represent the fleet department in overall responsibility and accountability whilst operating in port limits for all aspects of the maintenance and operating of propulsion engines, other engines, deck machinery, refrigeration and sanitary equipment, aboard the vessel by coordinating and directing subordinates whilst complying with statutory laws, company policies and safety regulations, thereby ensuring maximum dredger availability
Position Outputs
1. Plan, compile, and control annual lay up maintenance, to ensure expenditure is controlled.
2. Liaise with and control external contractors, to ensure that repairs and maintenance confirm to specifications and cost.
3. Plan and control preventative maintenance systems to minimize downtime.
4. Plan and organise the preparation of the dredger to proceed to sea ensuring the sea worthiness.
5. Liaise with maintenance manager to ensure spares and parts are ordered timeously to reduce down-time of dredger.
6. Ensure local and international maritime laws are conformed with.
7. Plan and executive daily maintenance with engine room personnel.
8. Up skill to ensure that exposure to OEM parts and machinery, to reduce call out of external contractors and agents.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications, Experience & Inherent Job Requirements Requirement of Trust and Honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19 STCW 95 Certificate of Competency second engineer class 2, as issued by the South African Maritime Safety Authority Must be endorsed as Chief engineer port ops by SAMSA. Standard Job Requirements Driver’s license code 08 Travel as required and approved

Position Purpose
Develop, deliver and maintain a business focused employee relations strategy that meets the needs of all Transnet Port Terminals’ stakeholder groups and ensure that the Employee Relation’s team achieve their objectives and business & work plans.
Responsible for creating a fair, respectful, diverse and high-performance culture in Transnet Port Terminals, enabling employees to contribute their best through sound employee relations policies, procedures and practices across the company.
Position Outputs
• Contribute to the strategic development of the People Management function by developing a progressive, business focused employee relations strategy that meets the current and future needs of the organisation. • Ensure Transnet Port Terminals People Management (PM) policies and processes are current, conform to employment legislation and where applicable are coherent with other Transnet Limited Operating divisions’ practices. Responsible for reviewing and updating policies. • Identify and implement positive employee relations programmes or interventions in consultation with relevant stakeholders that will lead to a more efficient and motivated workforce. • Contribute to the continued improvement of the health of the organisation by monitoring performance indicators, such as levels of grievances, disciplines, disputes and sickness absenteeism and developing initiatives and solutions in collaboration with other People Management specialists to enable positive trends.
• Lead negotiations and consultation with the recognised labour organisations on behalf of Transnet Port Terminals with a view to achieving positive outcomes and broad agreements to proposals which meet the business goals. Develop and implement negotiating mechanisms with labour organisations which support the annual review of wages and benefits together with any organisational & structural changes. • Lead on the employee relations aspects of proposed changes to the organisational structure, grading, rewards, redeployment, redundancy, and employment contracts which are needed to support the delivery of Transnet Port Terminals’ business objectives. • Provide responsive and high quality support, training and advice to all parts of the business including Executive Management to ensure the appropriate management of all employee relations issues including in particular change management, grievances, poor management, disciplinary action and management of union engagement.
• Serve as a principal point of liaison with external legal advisors/ private arbitrators, Transnet Bargaining Council and CCMA about company Labour Relations issues to ensure proper briefing and management of external parties regarding the company’s business and its employment practices. • Compile and manage operating budget for the department to ensure compliance to departmental targets and achieve cost containment. • Manage subordinates by allocating work, assessing progress, coaching, training and motivate to ensure productive utilisation of staff and instil performance culture within the department.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelors Degree in Industrial / Employee Relations, Labour Law or related field. • Post Graduate Qualification in the related field will be an advantage. • 10-12 years Employee Relations experience (in-house, Labour Court, CCMA, etc.) of which 5 years is spent at a level of senior manager position in Employee Relations. Position Purpose
To ensure legislative compliance relating to income tax, through the development of policies and procedures, monitoring and auditing the implementation thereof and providing advice to the business.
To assist in the implementation of the Company’s taxation strategy in respect of direct and indirect tax so as to ensure that the TFR complies fully with the taxation requirements and legislation.
To advise the Tax Manager of all unusual/irregular transactions being contemplated by the business units, to ensure that all tax consequences of these transactions are considered proactively and are taken into account in the agreements.
Position Outputs
• Prepare the Provisional Tax Calculation • Assist in providing technical advice and opinions in conjunction with Group Tax on transactions, including the provision of transactional analysis of the various projects undertaken or planned • Reconcile monthly Tax FAR to Book FAR • Monitor the system and ensure it is configured to calculate the tax & depreciation allowance by application of the appropriate SARS rates and company policy. • Analyse monthly reconciliation of the fixed assets register to the GL to ensure accuracy.
• Analyse the following exception reports to ensure the appropriate process was used, exceptions are followed up and appropriate corrective action taken: o Fixed assets that are below R7,000 are written off to R1 for tax purposes in the Tax Asset Register; o Difference between Tax FAR and book FAR; o Assets with negative net tax values; o Assets with Negative acquisition cost; o Exception report for the amendments to the Masterfile.
• Reconcile monthly the assets disposed of for accounting purposes to the recoupment/scrapping allowance calculation and the capital gains tax calculation and investigates and resolves any differences. • Analyse asset disposal report for accuracy and completeness and ensures that all movements are accounted for in the current and deferred tax computation (where applicable). • Prepare the monthly calculation of the annual tax liability/asset (current and deferred), and compilation of the tax reports for the Tax system One source • Prepare the monthly and the annual VAT returns, ensuring that they have been accurately calculated and are timeously submitted. Also liaise with Group Tax to resolve any outstanding queries • Follow-up any tax-related issues in the external audit management letter or in the internal control reports and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and in a satisfactory manner • Assist in the archiving and record keeping of income tax documentation so that all records are kept safely in accordance with legislation, and are accessible when required • Ensure that documentation supporting the customs, vat and income tax legislations are submitted • Analysis of Copex spend to ensure correct tax treatment • Assist in the review of accounting policies to ensure that tax consequences are identified and addressed • Analyse repairs and maintenance from a tax perspective to identify capital items that would require add back in the tax computation.
Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & INHERENT JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Senior Certificate • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with tax is required. • At least 5 years’ experience in an accounting environment; with a minimum of 2 years’ direct tax experience. • Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19. • Must undergo Lifestyle Audit.
