GRADUATE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES (2024)
 
TCTA invites suitably qualified and deserving graduate youths from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to be considered in the internship programme. Graduates must meet the following minimum requirements: 
Environmental interns: 
BSc in Environmental Science/water science/water treatment/ chemistry or related field x3
Engineering interns: 
BSc/ B Eng in Civil Engineering x3 
BSc/ B Eng/ B Tech or Equivalent in Chemical Engineering x1
IT Intern: 
B com or equivalent in Information Systems/ IT/ Computer Science or related field x1 
HR Intern: 
B Com/B Tech in Industrial Psychology, HRM or related

OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Location: Springs (Site-based)
Division: Project Management & Implementation
Reports to: Operations Manager
Nature of employment: 5 Year fixed-term contract
Total Guaranteed Pay: Market related
 
The purpose of this position, not limited to: 
Perform functions of the Operation and Maintenance (O & M) Technician role in the Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) Plant, and Ensure the water infrastructure implemented by TCTA are operated and maintained in accordance to specified requirements. 
 
THE KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS OF THE ROLE IN FOCUS, ARE: 
1. Maintenance • Provide guidance and ensure the contractor complies with applicable standards on Preventative Maintenance and Routine Maintenance of pumps, valve and other mechanical equipment. 
• Ensure compliance with Operations and Maintenance Manuals. 
• Regularly monitor all lifting equipment & ladders and ensure its certification through the contractor. 
• Monitor fault finding and repairs of Mechanical & Electrical equipment’s by the contractor. 
• Monitor and evaluate contractor plans, schedule, maintenance activities and cost control. 
• Check and ensure contractor's procedures, policies and guidelines are updated and implemented. 
• Ensure all structures and surrounding areas are maintained regularly. 
• Monitor and ensure contractor adopts prior task risk assessments for any work.
 
2. System Operation 
• Verify contractor's results prior to being distributed to TCTA and other stakeholders 
• Monitor daily status reports and highlight areas of concern to be addressed by TCTA Engineer 
• Follow-up with respective municipality to ensure electricity and water bills are received on time. 
• Monitor and ensure contractor complies with MOC procedures and updated records regularly. 
 
3. Health, Safety and Environmental 
• Monitor and ensure compliance with OEMPr requirements as guided by the Environmental Manager. 
• Participate in accidents/incidents investigations and follow-up with contractor to ensure records are updated. 
• Ensure contractor maintains the water discharge point area and it is free from invasive vegetation. 
• Ensure the contractor implements audit findings. 
 
4. Other Services 
• Attend and facilitate Monthly Operations and Maintenance Meetings 
• Weekly reporting on activities. 
• Ensure compliance to OHS Act requirements. 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
• National Diploma/B Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering 
• Reliability Engineering Experience advantageous 
• Working experience of at least 6 years experience in Water (or Wastewater, HDS) Treatment Plant would be advantageous 
• Supervisory experience 
• Standby duties during emergencies 
• Driver’s licence a must & own reliable transport 
• Computer literate with knowledge of MS office 
• Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management System (e.g. Sage, Pragma etc) would be advantageous 
• Certificate in Water and Wastewater Treatment will be advantageous
