The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), a Schedule 3A entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), is an independent statutory body that was established in terms of the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act No. 74 of 1996. The primary mandate of the SIU is to investigate allegations of corruption, malpractice and maladministration in government departments, municipalities and State-Owned Entities, and to recover financial losses suffered by State institutions.
 
Introduction
The SIU has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Talent to join our dynamic team, which is passionate about the fight against corruption and recovering financial losses suffered by the State. Job description
Job Purpose: To oversee the life cycle of civil litigation within the SIU to ensure the prevention or recovery of financial losses suffered by the State.

Key performance areas (Include but not limited to): Strategic support. Lead case assessment. Case oversight.  Civil litigation advisory service oversight. Stakeholder engagement. Financial management. Staff management. 

Technical skills: Very strong litigation skills.  Communication skills (Oral and written). Negotiation skills. Interpersonal skills. Analytical skills. Presentation skills. Decision making.

Required knowledge and Behavioural (include but not limited to): Excellent knowledge of principles of civil law. Excellent knowledge of the rules of court. Sound knowledge of Supply chain management principles. Knowledge of National treasury directives. Knowledge of Applicable legislation. Attention to detail. Commitment. Leadership capability. Planning and organising. Results oriented. Persuasive. Integrity.
Minimum requirements
Minimum qualification and experience: LLB Degree and an Admitted Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South AfricaSix to eight years’ post-admission work experience as an Advocate or Attorney within a Civil Litigation function, of which four years must have been at a senior management level.

·       The appointment of candidates will be at the Unit’s sole discretion, and the Unit reserves the right not to make an appointment.
·       The SIU is an Anti-Corruption Investigating Unit and requires applicants to make a full and frank disclosure in their application form.

·        All candidates will be subjected to integrity screening procedures in line with the Screening, Vetting and Lifestyle Audit Policy, and a favourable end report is essential.

Job description
Main purpose: To be responsible for the effective functioning of the Civil Litigation Section of the SIU, which section will handle civil litigation on behalf of the SIU and state institutions investigated by the SIU.     
Key performance areas (Include but are not limited to): Lead the strategic planning for and management of the Civil Litigation Section of the SIU. Manage and oversee civil litigation on behalf of the SIU and State Institutions investigated by the SIU. Consulting Services. Financial Management. Human Resource Management. Stakeholder Management.
Technical skills: Strong business acumen. Computer literacy in MS Office packages, with high-level Excel skills. Presentation skills. Report writing skills. 
Required knowledge and Behavioural (include but not limited to): Sound knowledge of all litigation and related legislation. Understand the public sector. Sound knowledge of stakeholder management strategies. Strategic decision making. Attention to detail. Information monitoring. Leadership capability. Planning and organising. Risk-taking.   
 
Minimum requirements
Minimum qualification and experience: B Honours Degree in Law or equivalent (NQF 8) and Admission as an Attorney or an Advocate.  Six to eight years’ relevant experience after Admission as an Advocate or Attorney, within a civil litigation environment, of which four years are at a management level.
