SENIOR SCIENTIST: SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Job Summary:
Provide support to the Research and Marine departments ensuring that numerical models, pre-processing and post processing software needed to run the models, as well as software needed to develop products are running efficiently.
Key performance areas:
• Work with research and ICT teams supporting technical and computational infrastructure
• Maintain and update relevant compilers, dependencies and data streams in support of research and production activities
• Play a supporting role in the development, installation, upgrading or maintenance of the scientific systems relevant to all modelling systems at SAWS.
• Assist in evaluating research needs and advice in computational infrastructure and software needs of SAWS, in line with international standards, practices and developments
• Assist with data management activities including archiving and ensuring that the data policies of SAWS are adhered to.
• Support the analysis of large datasets related to weather, climate and applications research
• Provide support to research programmes, projects or activities related to computational and software maintained in Research
• Provide support on the development of products and processes in support of the SAWS services
• Participate in the support of relevant operational and/or meteorological systems
• Participate in all activities related to the implementation and/or maintenance of the SAWS TQM system
Required Minimum Education / Training:
• A Master’s degree preferably in one of the following disciplines:
Required Minimum Experience:
• Systems admin experience
• Proficient in implementing, maintaining, and upgrading programming, scripting, and relevant environmental sciences software, e.g., Python, R, Fortran, C++, MATLAB, and/or Julia.
• Proficient in server maintenance and implementation and dependency control and upgrades of relevant codes as requested by users.
• Knowledge of database management systems, data modelling, and experience with related tools.
• Knowledge of high-performance computing environment
• Proficient in development of good-practices (well-structured, modular code) and version control tools (e.g., git)
• Familiarity of earth system data sets and multi-dimensional data formats would be an advantage

Job Summary:
The position of Information Security Officer reports to Senior Manager: ICT. The Officer will be responsible for information security, governance, and information to protect the organisation by employing a range of technologies and processes to prevent, detect and manage cyber threats.
Key performance areas
• Monitor computer networks for security issues, install security software and document all security breaches and assess the damage they cause.
• Fix detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard.
• Maintain the Information Security Framework and underlying policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
• Lead the development, maintenance and updating of the Information Security Strategy and Information Security Program.
• Ensure appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards are in place to protect SAWS information assets from internal and external threats.
• Identify, introduce, and implement appropriate procedures, including checks and balances, to test these safeguards on a regular basis.
• Conduct and complete annual reviews and audits as required engaging both internal and external resources.
• Ensure that the disaster recovery and emergency operating procedures are in place and tested on a regular basis.
• Act as the committed owner of the security incident and vulnerability management processes from design to implementation and beyond.
• Manage and assist in performing on-going security monitoring of information systems including assessing information security risk through qualitative risk analysis on a regular basis
• Conduct functional and gap analyses to determine the extent to which key business areas and infrastructure comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate and recommend new information security technologies and counter-measures against threats to information or privacy, and developing security reports and dashboards
• Ensure effective staff training programs are in place to increase security awareness across SAWS
Requirements:
• A degree or equivalent qualification in IT with relevant IT security certificates, such as SICP and others
• A working knowledge of ICT security and experience of least two years as security officer/ analyst
• A working practical experience in implementing NIST and IS0 27001
• A working knowledge of IT security architecture framework and security controls implementation as well as ICT security policy and SOP development

Job Summary
The Senior Electronic Technician is essentially responsible for the maintenance, upgrade and calibration of the following SAWS networks and/or network nodes/sites:
• Radar network (assistance to the technologist only)
• Lightning detection network (assistance to the technologist only)
• Automatic Weather Stations
• Hydrogen Generators
• Local User Terminals (assistance to the technologist and ICT only)
• Automatic Rain Gauge Systems
• Satellite Transceivers (assistance to the technologist and ICT only)
Key performance areas
• Calibration and inspection of Equipment
• Manage the Inspection Programme for Observing Networks
• Repair faulty equipment of the Observing Networks
• Assist in higher-level maintenance of component which constitute the Observing Networks
• Managing Technical Services activities within area of responsibility/appointment
• Participation in forums and workshops as instructed.
• Serve on Technical Committees as part of approval processes as instructed.
• Assist with the documentation of Technical Specifications for acquiring equipment and services, these specifications being industry-level and within accepted practice within the technical field
• Liaise with clients to ascertain requirements.
• Represent SAWS in meetings with stakeholders as instructed.
• Ensure that customer communication is carried out effectively.
• Promote the awareness of SAWS products and services to all stakeholders.
• Support staff involved in exhibiting SAWS products and services at dedicated client contact events such as exhibitions, corporate events, workshops, conventions, expos etc
• Sharing knowledge and skills with appropriate stakeholders thereby promoting the strategy of SAWS being a learning organization.
Requirements:
• National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Light Current)
• A minimum of 5 years’ working experience with the installation, maintenance and management of Automatic Weather Stations and remote sensing equipment.
• Code EB or Code 08 (without endorsements)
