The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is therefore seeking to appoint an efficient and enthusiastic person to undertake the role of:

Job Summary:
To effectively and efficiently supervise matters pertaining to the management, safeguarding and accounting of assets within SAWS to meet business needs
Key Performance Areas:
Ensure that, Procurement source documents related to assets are verified, captured and authorized
Develop and implement an asset disposal management plan
Report on asset related information such as acquisition, maintenance, useful life, asset classification, physical verification and disposals to internal and external stakeholders
Compiles and monitors the fixed asset register efficiently to enable effective record keeping
Assists in disposal of assets through identification and coordination of disposal committee meetings
Keep a file for all assets acquired and disposed during the year as well as the approved minutes of the Disposal Committee meeting
Assist with the compilation of a comprehensive asset management plan
Coordinate the annual physical verification within SAWS in line with the Verification Plan
Maintain and update the asset register with additions, movements and disposal of assets
Allocate new barcodes to newly procured assets
Ensure that the movement of assets is properly maintained
Reconcile the Fixed Asset Register to the General Ledger and resolve identified differences
Review the asset clearing account and monitor all asset related accounts on the NetSuite ERP system
Provide information and supporting documents on asset transactions that need to be journalized
Identify assets which must be re-assessed on an annual basis
Ensure that annual asset verification is conducted annually
Ensure that the Fixed Asset Register is valid, accurate and complete
Identify and coordinate disposal of redundant, obsolete and unserviceable assets for disposal
Monitor all asset transfers within the SAWS office
Compile and co-ordinate an asset requirement plan and asset additions report
Ensuring that proper control systems exists for asset management to eliminate theft, losses, wastage and misuse
Reconcile assets utilising information from monthly reports sent through by the Regional Asset Champions
Implement and monitor the Asset Management Policy and annually review the Standard Operating Procedures related to asset management
Assesse the condition of assets and in conjunction with Departmental Managers and make recommendations to Manager on disposal of identified assets
Adhere to applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the procuring, safeguarding, treatment and disposal of assets
Submit a fixed asset register to the Insurer on an annual basis and ensure that all company electronic equipment for employees are insured
Ensures that all documentation for asset related insurance claims is completed and submitted on time
Update returned electronic equipment register upon resignation of employees / termination of service and verify these assets with Information Technology Department
Ensure that the movement of assets is properly maintained

Minimum Requirements and Attributes:
• National Diploma in Financial Accounting (NQF 6) or equivalent
• A minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience
• A minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in asset management; solid understanding of asset classes, asset lifecycle, verification, asset depreciation and accounting of assets.
• Previous working experience on ERP system in relation to assets
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word.
• Valid Driver’s License (manual vehicle)
