The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is a Section 3(a) public entity under the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) and is governed by a Board. The organisation is an authoritative voice for weather and climate related services in South Africa and is a member of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) to fulfil a range of international obligations of the government. South African Weather Service (SAWS) strives to be a Weather and Climate Centre of Excellence providing innovative solutions to ensure a weather-smart region, sustainable development and economic growth.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is therefore seeking to appoint an efficient and enthusiastic person to undertake the role of:
Software Engineer (3 year Contract) (Re-advertisement)
Salary total package: Negotiable

Job Summary:
The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and support of the applications within the SAWS environment.
Key Performance Areas:
• Maintain good working relationships with SAWS business users
• Implement the SDLC and Agile methodology within SAWS ICT
• Ensure that the change control processes are well managed
• Work with stakeholders and functional areas to develop business requirements
• Create business requirements, business processes, and project plans
• Effectively prioritize and assign work in order to meet deadlines
• Manage and maintain C#, C++, SQL Server, MySQL, ASP.net, MVC, Xamarin, SharePoint, Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server
• Design, development and maintain enterprise level software products
• Implement and manage mobile technology (IOS, Android, Huawei, Windows Mobile)
• Oversee and manage the development of APIs and web services

Minimum Requirements and Attributes:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information and Communications Technology or Information Systems or equivalent
• A minimum of 5 years’ C#, C++, SQL Server, ASP.net, MVC, Web Services and API’s, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server experience
• Knowledge of PHP, MySQL, Open Source, IoT, Azure and GIS will be an added advantage
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Systems
• SharePoint and PowerApps experience/knowledge will be an added advantage.
• Documenting functional and technical requirement for all systems
• Business Analysis and Testing knowledge will be an added advantage.
• Excellent ability to lead a team and to work in a team environment
• Demonstrate strong personal and organizational leadership skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential
• Must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and mentoring
