THE SOUTH AFRICAN WEATHER SERVICE is offering the following Bursaries, Internships and Learnership for the following for 2020:- 
A) A one year BSc bridging course (introduction to meteorology) followed by honours in meteorology and a postgraduate certificate in weather forecasting. 
B) Bachelor of Science Bursaries (1st, 2nd, 3rd or honours year). 
C) Forecasting Internships 
D) National Certificate: Weather Observations Learnerships

DETAILS 
 
 
A) ONE YEAR BSC BRIDGING COURSE (INTRODUCTION TO METEOROLOGY) FOLLOWED BY HONOURS IN METEOROLOGY AND A POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN WEATHER FORECASTING.

is offering Bursaries for study 
 
 
The South African Weather Service invites graduates who are in possession of a three year BSc degree with suitable major subjects such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Physics. Oceanography or Meteorological related subjects, to apply for a bursary to undergo a one year course in basic meteorology. The minimum requirements are Mathematics on level 2 and Physics on level 1. The course will include a range of meteorological courses. The students will study at the University of Pretoria. This course will start in February 2020. Your application must include the acceptance letter from the University into the relevant course. 
On successful completion of the course selected students will have an opportunity to study the BSc meteorology Honours course and the post graduate certificate in Weather Forecasting as stipulated by the South Africa. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
B) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (1ST, 2ND, 3RD OR HONOURS YEAR) –

is offering Bursaries for study towards the following 
 
 METEOROLOGY 
 AGRO-METEORLOGY 
 AIR QUALITY (Honours) 
 ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE 
 CLIMATOLOGY 
 
 
Please note all degrees must include Mathematics and Physical Sciences. 
Applicants that have a letter of confirmation from the university may apply. Applicants that are already registered with the university must provide proof of registration. 
Candidates with a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with a 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science are invited to apply for bursaries. Your application must include the acceptance letter from the University into the relevant course. 
After the completion of the BSC course, the student must enter the BSc Honours course as the South African Weather Service only employ students with Honours level qualifications.




​C) FORECASTING INTERNSHIP 
(REF.WS12/10/2019), 
is offering Internships for study 

The South African Weather Service invites graduates who are in possession of an honours degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric sciences with at least mathematics on second year university level and physical sciences on first year university level to apply for a one-year training internship in forecasting at the head office of the South African Weather Service in Pretoria. The qualification must also include the required dynamical courses as prescribed by the World Meteorological Organization. This course will start in February 2020. The forecasting offices where forecasters possibly can be appointed are: Pretoria, OR Tambo International Airport, Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town. 
 
The following must accompany the application: 
 A certified copy of Matric results 
 A certified copy of the full academic record to prove the subject choice at the university where applicable 
 A certified copy of SA identity document 
 A CV 
 Motivation Letter 
 A certified copy of the different degrees 
 
 
The following will serve as recommendations: 
 Good interpersonal relations 
 A basic level of computer literacy 
 
 
 

 
D) NATIONAL CERTIFICATE: WEATHER OBSERVATIONS

Nelspruit x2 (REF.WS03/10/2019), Polokwane x1 (REF. WS04/10/2019), Thohoyandou x 2 (REF: WS05/10/2019 
is offering Learnerships for study 
 
Candidates with a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with 50% (D symbol) or higher for Mathematics (not mathematics literacy), 50% or higher for Physical Science and 50% or higher in English are invited to apply for learnership to undergo ten (10) months observation training at the SA Weather Service Regional Training Centre in Pretoria, commencing February 2020.
Candidates will receive training in all aspects of weather observation as per the National Certificate in Weather Observation. (SAQA QUAL ID no 58995) or the QCTO qualification. 
After completion of training, successful candidates may be appointed at regional offices where shift work will necessitate having a valid driver’s license. It will thus be expected of the learnership holders to obtain a driver license within the training year, at own cost. Good interpersonal relations and computer literacy will serve as additional recommendations.
