The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is therefore seeking to appoint an efficient and enthusiastic person to undertake the role of:
Assets Senior Officer
Annual Total Cost Salary: R223 981 – R291 160

Job Summary:
To ensure the effective and efficient administering of assets in the Organisation.
Key Performance Areas:
Ensure that new acquisitions are accurately updated on the NetSuite ERP System, including the creating of new asset master, new asset numbers and allocating location for procured assets.
Ensure that category codes for old and new assets are defined and posted to the ledger – new asset numbers are allocated if necessary.
Ensure that finance efficiently assists with the reconciliation of the fixed asset register to the general ledger.
Ensure that assets that have fully depreciated or have zero net book value are correctly identified; life cycle and cost updated with the end user’s recommendation.
Ensure that the annual verification projects in all SAWS regional offices and remote stations are well planned and executed.
Lead the asset verification team efficiently as and when required.
Ensure that existing assets without tagging are correctly numbered and tagged and 3rd party assets are categorized.
Ensure that the entity’s assets are properly maintained
Ensure that effective measures for the safeguarding of assets are implemented
Ensure physical disposal of all redundant and obsolete assets in line with instructions from the Supervisor for Asset Management
Ensure that assets for disposal are accurately identified according to SCM practices, policies and procedures of the SAWS
Ensure that reports are submitted to the Asset Disposal Committee and that the Fixed Assets Register is updated after disposal
Ensure that proper recordkeeping and filing in assets is kept at all times
Provide timeous and accurate weekly/monthly reporting
Resolve queries in an effective and efficient manner to enhance customer relationships
Minimum Requirements and Attributes:
National Diploma in Financial Accounting
A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience
Valid Driver’s License (manual vehicle)
Financial Skills and familiarity with applicable financial laws such as GRAP including Treasury Regulations related to the acquisition, disposal, accounting and management of assets
Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel / MS Word would be an added advantage

• Good communications skills (written and verbal) at all levels within the business and with stakeholders
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
• Meticulous, accurate and pay attention to detail
• Excellent customer and analytical skills
• Ability to work under pressure and at times extended hours to meet deadlines.
