DATA ENGINEER AND MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST 
Fixed Term Contract: 24 months 
 
An exciting Data Engineering opportunity exists at our Head Office in South Africa, to join our Digital and Technology business unit as a Data Engineer and Management Specialist. We invite applications from individuals who are passionate about promoting South Africa as a Tourism Destination and possess the required skills and experience. 
 
Purpose of the Role 
With a dual reporting line to the GM: ICT and Manager: Digital Operations, this role is responsible for the solutions and architecture for processing data with the objective of transforming raw data into a valuable asset and tool for all SA Tourism business units, locally and internationally to meet their mandate and objectives. 
 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
Data Engineering Management 
 Manage & organize the organization’s data 
 Develop, construct, test and maintain data architectures 
 Align architecture with business requirements 
 Develop data set processes 
 Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality 
 Design, develop, implement and maintain Oracle/Microsoft SQL applications. 
 Maintain all SQL / PLSQL processes. 
 CRM integration to multiple platforms. 
 Ensure DB availability. 
 SQL database design 
 Optimize data retrieval and integration processes with 3rd party data sources 
 Manage all steps of data processing and visualisation 
 
Data Interpretation 
 Develop dashboards, reports and other visualizations 
 Prepare data for predictive and prescriptive modelling 
 Find hidden patterns using data 
 Monitor & review data inconsistencies 

 
Stakeholder Management 
 Interface with the wider DIGITECH to assure integration of data across platforms; 
 Engage with the DIGITECH and other business units to provide an advisory role in terms of data systems solution performance 
 Work with the data scientist to produce algorithms for the practical application of data. 
 
Minimum Qualifications and Experience 
 Bachelor’s Degree: Information Technology/Programming, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistical Modelling, Data Management 
 2+ years' experience as a data engineer / modeller experience in a BI environment. 
 Data API management 
 Algorithms and data structures 
 ETL tools set-up, roll-out and maintenance 
 Database systems management (SQL and NoSQL) 
 Data warehousing and management solutions management, understanding of the Microsoft and google tech stack, include of Azure and Google cloud, are required. 
 Must have experience with programming languages such PL/SQL coding 
 Experience should include DB design (modelling and normalisation), capacity planning, performance tuning, storage management, back-up and recovery, managing schemas, report generation and DB clustering technologies 
 Ideally Oracle Certified DB Professional & or Microsoft SQL certification 
 
Knowledge and understanding of: 
 Government priorities and imperatives 
 Python, Java, and Scala programming language skills 
 Understanding the basics of distributed systems such as Hadoop
