Duties and Responsibilities
1. Strategic alignment
- Participate in the setting up of company strategy.
- Strategy monitoring and evaluation.
- Support the FD to provide integrated budgeting process that aligns with company objectives and drives to improve financial control discipline.
- Budget monitoring and reporting by company and by departments.
- Support the FD in Creating business strategies to generate shareholder value.
2. Financial/ Operational
- Responsibilities of the job include: preparing reports, budgets, commentaries to management accounts.
- Conducts Research and prepares recommendations for policy, procedure, control or action.
- Analysing financial information to forecast business/industry and/or economic conditions.
- Analyses information to determine present and future performance.
- Looking at past and current financial performance and identifying trends.
- Preparing reports on the above information and communicating the insights to the business.
- Providing relevant finance information to aid business decisions for major projects and advising on its financial implications.
- Performing financial analysis and assessing the financial viability of business transactions.
- Consolidates the business plans and the financial forecasts ensuring that the process is efficient.
- Provide business data and analysis to managers within the organisation to assist in business decision-making and control.
- Explaining the financial consequences of business decisions applying accounting techniques to plan and budget, makes recommendations to management regarding opportunities, progress, and improvement strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Strategic alignment
- Participate in the setting up of departmental strategy.
- Ensure departmental business plans are implemented in line with overall strategy to support business.
- Assist SM: Finance to provide integrated budgeting process that aligns with company objectives and drives to improve financial control discipline.
- Identification of financial risk and working together with the SM: Finance to implement identified financial risk management strategy.
2. Financial/ Operational
IFRS 17 (Insurance contracts);
- Complex Financial Modelling / Adjustments (Monthly forecasting and reporting of expected and actual revenue).
- Unbundling (savings component, embedded derivatives, services).
- Generation of insurance portfolios.
- Classification of insurance contracts.
- Determine individual contract measurement based on IFRS 17.
- Calculating the expected value of future cash flows per contract obligations through current estimations.
- Discounting to calculate the time value of money (bottom-up, top-down).
- Calculating the compensation which the company demands for uncertainty of cash flow.
- Estimation of profitability of insurance contract over the contract period.
- Calculating the expected value of future cash flows per contract obligations through current estimations.

- Calculate the Risk Margins (Capital Costs).
- Estimation of profitability of insurance contract over the contract period.

- Tracking of value drivers, Premiums, Revenue, Provision for continuous losses, time value of money.
- Aggregation of portfolio valuation.
- Measurement of contract component (IFRS9 for savings component).
- Performing the initial and subsequent measurement valuation for journal entries.
- Performing calculation for any IFRS 17 related write offs.
- Prepare the journal entries for the General Ledger.
- Support in preparation, submission and payment of income taxes.
- Support in deferred Tax calculations.
- Support in preparation, submission and payment of VAT on a monthly basis.
- Support in the calculation of the monthly VAT apportionment.
- Support in completion of taxation notes in the annual financial statements.
- Relationship building with the asset managers and custodians (Soft skills).
- Journals: verifies, allocates and posts details of business transactions in journals.
- Prepare monthly expenditure reports.
- Review and analyse monthly divisional reports (for any misallocations and prepare correcting journals).
- Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
3. Statutory reporting
- Compile and analyse financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
- Manage the preparation and distribution of management and statutory accounting information in agreed format.
- Preparation of Monthly/ Quarterly/ Annual or ad-hoc management and financial reports/ statement as required by various stakeholders.
- Prepare Monthly commentary on Actuals vs. Budgets / Forecast.
- Complete reports to FSCA quarterly / annually.
- Assist with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements / Integrated reporting for review by SM: Finance.
- Assist with the preparation of Income Tax submission for review by Senior Manager (IT14 / IRP6 etc.).
4. Performance Management
- Ensure that annual performance objectives are set and understood by team members.
- Identify development areas and prepare career development plans for team members.
- Manage team performance, ensuring that non-performance is dealt with accordingly..
- Identify resourcing needs and participate in the recruitment of staff.
- Ensure that all staff are trained, skilled and that their expertise is fully applied.
- Ensure that working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increased productivity.
