Job Title: Infrastructure Support Engineer (Storage) (C5)
(Position based in Head Office: Pretoria)
Reports to: Manager: IT Infrastructure
 
Summation
Install, upgrade, configure, administrate and deploy the storage solutions. Identify and resolve hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to storage system. Maintain and support storage systems. Provide guidance and advice on Technical Architecture, Capacity Planning and Designing. Perform Security Analysis, manage storage pools.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
 Install, upgrade, configure, administrate and deploy the storage solution
 Identify and resolve hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions
 Maintains and supports storage systems
 Provide guidance and advice on Technical Architecture, Capacity Planning and Designing
 Perform security analysis
 Manage storage pools and configuration of SAN
 Provides 1st, 2nd and 3rd level support services for IT storage systems
 Participate in the implementation of IT projects
 Maintain and support storage systems
 Provide day-to-day maintenance of data storage environments, including backups and recovery protocols
 Assist with capacity planning and risk management, and make recommendations for strategic decisions
 Design and implement data migration architecture and analysis of the environments
 Design, install, and engineer new storage purchases, including racking them
 Documentation of IT Infrastructure Development Storage systems
 New developments, enhancements, part take in projects and successfully implement changes
 Manage performance of SAN fabric and back end storage system
 Manage storage including provisioning of SAN Storage to AIX, Solaris and Windows
 Manage all change requests as per change management procedures
 Establish fit for purpose test criteria that meet business specifications
 Update test criteria for production acceptance
 Anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems with minimal supervision
 Conduct and prepare feasibility studies; develop user proposals, including estimates for costs, time and resources; prepare statistical reports: complete cost / benefit analysis and conduct business
 Assess internal and external operating practices, anticipate future system requirements
 
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications:
 National Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent (NQF Level 6)
 EMC proven professional certification will be an added advantage
 
Experience:
 1-3 Years relevant experience particularly in relation to performance tuning, security, reliability, scalability and capacity sizing, backup and recovery
 Valid Driving Licence (Job is office based, travelling limited between satellite offices)
 
Knowledge and understanding of
 IT Database Infrastructure standards, policies and procedures
 IT Strategy and Architecture including IT Storage infrastructure
 Delivery assurance according to (ITIL, CoBIT,) etc.
 Manage all change requests as per change management procedures
 Unit testing of storage modules
 Support production acceptance and implementation testing
 Broad range of UNIX knowledge/skills is desired, including from among the following : Sun Solaris, IBM AIX and HP-UX
 EMC: Symmetrix, Clariion and Centera
 Thorough understanding of systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines.
 Expert technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, hardware and software, and troubleshooting techniques
 Trouble shooting
 Ability to anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems with minimal supervision
 
Skills:
 Broad range of Windows OS knowledge and skills desired, pr Broad range of Windows OS knowledge and skills desired, primarily Windows Server and Advanced Server, HP Blade Server, Cloud Technologies and VMware Virtualisation Technology,
 Thorough understanding of distributed systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines
 Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, hardware, software and troubleshooting techniques
 Ability to solve operating system problems and to manage the performance and capacity of a Windows systems environment
 Experience in effectively communicating with a broad base of end users and multiple management layers
 Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs
 Ability to anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems with minimal supervision; strong customer service and communication skills, Ability to conduct and prepare feasibility studies; develop client proposals, including estimates for costs, time and resources; prepare statistical reports: complete cost/benefit analysis and conduct business
 Ability to assess internal and external operating practices, anticipate future system requirements and research and analyse emerging technologies primarily Windows Server and Advanced Server, HP Blade Server, Cloud Technologies and VMware Virtualisation Technology,
