Job Title: Head Market Risk (L4)
(Position based in Pretoria)
Reports to: Chief Risk Officer
 
Summation
Develop market risk strategies and establish and maintain an effective market risk management framework, including policies and processes, across the Business. Responsible for Asset and Liability Management (ALM) and Market Risk Management throughout
 
 
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement and maintain ALM and Market Risk related performance measures and Key Risk Indicators.
• Develop, maintain and regularly review policies and procedures; ensure compliance to regulations and industry best practice.
• Develop understanding of the bank’s balance sheet and its inherent market risks and perform the 2nd line of defence capabilities in this space.
• Ensure sound investment options / advice through risk analysis and assessment of economic and business environment, evaluation of investment strategies and investment mandates.
• Assess the appropriateness and suitability of the risk limits and monitoring framework for market risks.
• Ensure best practice objectives are met by fully identifying all aspects of the market risk profile.
• Research, develop and implement appropriate models to facilitate information on market risk management activities.
• Assess appropriateness of the modelling assumptions used to model market risk
• Ensure continuous communication and dissemination of relevant and appropriate information to all Business Units and advise management at all levels.
• Identify, research, develop, implement and maintain appropriate reporting strategies to support Postbank’s strategic and business needs and objectives
• Develop, implement, maintain and administer a comprehensive information network interfacing with appropriate database/s throughout the organisation
• Develop and maintain market risk systems and tools and ensure they remain up to date with latest changes and development in the industry
• Analysis and, if necessary, development of relevant hypothetical what if scenarios in normal and stressed market simulations and their impact on the bank’s risk
• Provide relevant market risk sections for the Bank's regulatory reporting and the ALCO pack Ensure adherence to accounting standards and market risk disclosure requirements as required by IFRS
• Establish and manage stakeholder relationships (internal and external) to improve stakeholder satisfaction.
• Ensure the efficient management, control and reporting of the Market Risk function/resources in accordance with the stipulations of the PFMA, fraud prevention and risk management principles, legislation, company policies, processes, regulations, delegation of powers, etc.
 
Minimum Requirements
• Degree in Mathematical Sciences / Finance and Accounting
• Minimum of 8 -10 years’ experience in a Financial Institution and treasury environment of which 5 years has been in a management position
 
Knowledge and understanding of:
Corporate governance (King III), Basel II and III, Banks Act, Statistical techniques and models, Business Intelligence principles, Financial market products and interrelationships, Strategy development and implementation, Risk and Compliance management, Relevant statutes, rules and regulations.
