Component Head: Priority Crime Specialized Investigation

Generic Requirements:
 Be in possession of a Degree or Diploma (minimum of NQF 6) or equivalent qualification in Policing/ Law/ Criminology/ Commercial Law/ Forensic Investigation or other relevant fields of study;
 Have a minimum of 3 years applicable managerial experience within the operational field of Policing/ Detective Service/Law enforcement and or Intelligence;
 An applicable post graduate qualification in the above relevant fields, as well as relevant training and development in an Executive Development Programme and/or Project Management may be an added advantage;
 Applicable training and development in the Operational Policing of Serious Organised Crime, Serious Commercial Crime and Serious Corruption Investigations, will be an advantage;
 Must have successfully completed applicable functional learning programmes for the effective prevention, combating and investigation of serious crime;
 Have specific working knowledge of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) mandate and functions (SA Police Service Act 68 of 1995), operational application of common law and relevant legislation in particular the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Act 121 of 1998), the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (Act 12 of 2004), and other offences mentioned in the Schedule (Section 16 (2) (IA) of the SA Police Service Act (Act 68 of 1995);
 Be fluent in at least 2 official languages, of which one must be English;
 Be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle drivers licence and;
 Be subjected to an integrity screening and security clearance process and be cleared the level of Top Secret.
 
Core Function:
 Directly accountable to the Deputy National Head: DPCI,
 To ensure the execution of specialised technology investigations in support of priority offence operations,
 Ensuring the effective and efficient investigative service pertaining to Proceeds of Crime targeting the Organised Criminal Business System and Value Chain,
 Render an effective and efficient investigative service pertaining to Financial Investigations,
 Manage the provisioning of Forensic Accounting service to DPCI operations,
 Render an effective and efficient investigative service pertaining to Assets Forfeiture Investigations,
 Formulate, maintain, monitor, evaluate and comply with national policy including standards (within the time framework of policies set by the National Head: DPCI,
 Manage the PCSI and the human and physical resources allocate to the component, taking financial management, treasury regulations on the expenditure and the MTEF into considerations.

Generic Competencies:

 Competency in the post specific functions of the post

Core Function:
 Manage any offence relating to the dealing in smuggling of ammunition, firearms, explosives or armament and the unlawful possession of such firearms, explosives or armament.
Oversee the investigation of organised crimes, identified by means of the National Crime Threat Analysis (NCTA), as well as other approved techniques and / or methods used in the SAPS. Oversee the investigation of criminal activities in respect of unwrought precious metals, unpolished diamonds and precious stones. Manage the Investigation of criminal activities in respect of precursor chemical and diversion thereof. Detecting, investigating and dismantling of clandestine Laboratories. Manage the investigation of criminal activities in respect of the hunting, importation, exportation, possession, buying and selling of endangered species and non-ferrous metals.
 Managing the implementation of strategies from the National Head: DPCI to ensure the effective prevention, combating and investigation of National Priority Crime as mandated to the DPCI. Manage the physical and human resource allocated to Specific Organised Crime taking financial management treasury regulations and MTEF into consideration.
