POST: Section Commander: (Colonel)
LOCATION: Modus Operandi Strategic Analysis Centre (MOSAC), Data Collection and System Research, Head Office, Pretoria
LEVEL OF REMUNERATION (MMS) R838.407 per annum

Generic Requirements:
Applicant must display competency in the post-specific functions of the post;
be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12); or National Certificate (Vocational);
be proficient in at least two official languages, of which one must be English;
Must be a South African citizen;
Must have no previous criminal/departmental convictions or criminal or departmental cases pending; Be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence
Must not have visible tattoos when wearing the summer uniform;
Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification.
Computer literacy, interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and organising skills, report writing skills, communication and co-ordination skills may serve as an advantage.
Applicants must also be able to analyse problems and work under pressure.

Additional Requirements:
Be in a possession of at least a three (3) year Degree or Diploma recorded on the National Learner Database on NQF level 6 or higher in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Forensic Investigation, Information Technology or other relevant field of study.
Candidates must have at least four (4) years’ experience in the field of the post, of which three (3) years should be on supervisory level. Experience in information management will be an added advantage.
Core Functions:
Conduct research on emerging and stubborn modus operandi identified by the National Crime Combating Forum (NCCF) or any other priority committee with the SAPS;
Manage of the literature review process for development of modus operandi-related base documents;
Manage the development of research proposals in order to conduct structured and well-coordinated research;
Manage of the development of data collection tool;
Manage optimal utilization of all information sources used within MOSAC;
Manage retrieval of modus operandi-related information from all relevant internal and external corporate systems;
Manage compilation of modus operandi related reports and presentation;
Conduct of international studies on a specific stubborn modus operandi.
General:

* Qualifications and driver’s licences submitted will be subjected to verification checking with the relevant institutions. The South African Police Service will verify the residential address of applicants and conduct reference checks.
* Appointment will be made in terms of the SAPS Act, 1995 as applicable to the post environment.
* Applicants appointed under the Police Service Act will be subjected to a medical assessment by a medical practitioner as determined by SAPS prescripts.
* Applicants appointed under the Police Service Act will be subjected to undergo a lateral entry training programme at a SAPS training institution, where applicable.

* If a candidate is short-listed, it can be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview as well as a practical assessment.
* Reference checking will be conducted on all short listed applicants.
* Short-listed candidates for appointment to certain identified posts, will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005). A candidate, whose particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment to that post.
* All short-listed candidates will be subjected to fingerprint screening.
