RE-APPOINTMENT OF FORMER 
Former employees (including those who retired) who conform to the requirements are invited to apply. Only former employees who were appointed in terms of SAPS Act, 1995 (Act no 68 of 1995) may apply to be re-appointed on a three (3) year performance based contract to the same rank they held before exiting the Service. 
 
 
Generic Minimum Requirements: 
The applicants must: 
 Be in possession of at least a Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) and at least a three (3) year Degree/Diploma (accredited by SAQA on NQF 6 level) in Policing/ Law/ Criminology/ Forensic Investigation/ Commercial/ Accounting/ Administration/ Management or related field of study; 
 Have a valid motor vehicle drivers’ licence; 
 Have been appointed as a member of the South African Police Service in terms of the SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No.68 of 1995); 
 Have successfully completed Basic Police training as well as Detective or Investigation related course(s); 
 Be a South African citizen of which documentary proof must be furnished; 
 Be proficient in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; 
 Have no previous criminal convictions, and or pending criminal cases and allow his or her fingerprints to be taken for background enquiries; 
 Have not been declared unfit to possess a firearm; 
 Be prepared to be deployed based on the needs of the Directorate which may include having to relocate at one’s own expense and or to accept a post away from one’s current place of residence; Have a good disciplinary and attendance record during their former employment in the South African Police Service; 
 Not have any tattoo marks of which will be visible when wearing a uniform and not be in conflict with the objectives of the Service; 
 Not be involved in any business or activity that will be in conflict of interest with the integrity of the Directorate; and 
 Be willing to undergo a refresher course or any other training as determined by the National Head. 
 
Applications of former members who have left the Service under any of the following circumstances will NOT be considered for re-appointment: - 
 Members who previously terminated service through dismissal or dishonourable discharge; 
 Members who have left the Service pending the completion of a disciplinary enquiry and/or criminal proceedings; and 
 Members who have left the Service due to ill health or retirement as a result of a medical boarding. 
 
Core Functions: 
 Investigate all Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) related cases as directed by the management; 
 Recruit, utilise and maintain informers; 
 Reconstruct crime scenes and gather evidence; 
 Apprehending and processing of suspects; 
 Give evidence in court and oppose bail; 
 Ensure continuous updating of CAS system; 
 Preparing case dockets and enquiries for inspection in accordance with the prescripts; 
 Submit progress reports on all investigations.



General:

All instructions on the application form must be adhered to, failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application; 
 The post particulars (Post title and Post number & location) of the post must be correctly specified on the application form. 
 A separate original application form and Curriculum Vitae (CV) must be submitted for each post you apply for. 
 The CV must contain full particulars of: 
* all boards on which an applicant serves; 
* current employment and other business interests; 
* career promotions, appointments, career developments, career history, and completed qualifications. 
 An applicant must also attach to every application the following documents (which need not to be certified): 
* Identity document; 
* valid motor vehicle driver’s license; 
* Degree/Diploma Certificates (study/academic records of qualifications alone do not suffice) of .all educational qualifications as well as study/academic records; and 
* courses/programmes obtained; 
 Applicants will be subjected to fingerprint screening. 
 Appointments will be made in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995.

 Candidates short-listed for appointment to certain identified posts will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32 of 2007) and the children's Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005). A candidate, whose particulars appear in either the National Register of Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment to the post.
