POLICE ACT
The SAPS offers careers in various fields. If you join the SAPS you can either become a police official or a civilian employee. Police officials are employed in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995). Civilian employees are employed in terms of the Public Service Act, 1994 (Act No 103 of 1994). Most functional Police Officials are directly involved in preventing, combating or investigating crime. The other Police officials and civilian personnel carry out support functions.

Remuneration Level:R442 014 per annum

Generic Requirements:
 Applicant must display competency in the post-specific functions of the post;
 Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade12);
 Be proficient in at least two official languages of which one must be English.
 Must be a South African Citizen;
 Must have no previous criminal/ departmental convictions or criminal or departmental cases pending;
 Applications will be subjected to a vetting process which include security screening and finger print verification
 Relevant courses in the field of the post may be an advantage.
 
 
Additional Requirements:
 An applicable NQF 6 qualification and 3 years relevant experience in the field of the post, of which 2 years should be on supervisory level;
 Be in a possession of at least a valid light vehicle driver’s licence.
 Must not have tattoos which will be visible when wearing summer uniform.
 
Core Functions:
 Provide strategic administration support to the office of the National Head;
 Monitor the execution of tasks and feedback relating to secretariat functions in the office of the Executive Secretariat. Maintain a database and recordings for directives given.
 
 
General
 Only the official application form (available on SAPS website and at SAPS recruitment offices) which will be accepted. The Z83 previously utilized will no longer be accepted.
 
All instructions on the application form must be adhered to; failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application.
 
The post particulars and reference number of the post must be correctly specified on the application form.
 A Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae must be submitted together with the application form.
 Certified copies of an applicant's ID document, Senior Certificate and all educational qualifications obtained, service certificates of previous employers stating the occupation, proof of relevant experience in the field of the post and motor vehicle driver’s license.
 The copies must be correctly certified on the copy itself, not at the back. The certification must be not older than three months.
 Persons who retired from the Public Service by taking a severance package, early retirement or for medical reasons, as well as persons with previous convictions, are excluded.
 Appointments will be made in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 or Public Service Act, 1994 as applicable to the post

 If a candidate is short-listed, it can be expected of him/ her to undergo a personal interview as well as practical assessment. Short-listed candidates may be subjected to security clearance.

 Candidates short-listed for appointment to certain identified posts will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32 of 2007) and the children's Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005). A candidate, whose particulars appear in either the National Register of Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment to the post.
