SCIENCE EDUCATOR (HERMANUS)
Reporting to the Science Advancement Manager, the incumbent will assist in the provision of appropriate science advancement services and support for SANSA with particular emphasis on science awareness and school programmes for the Hermanus, Science Advancement Unit (SAU). The incumbent should be an energetic person who has a passion for science and education.
Duties will include but is not limited to the following:
Reporting to the Science Advancement Manager, the incumbent will assist in the provision of appropriate science advancement services and support for SANSA with particular emphasis on science awareness and school programmes for the Hermanus, Science Advancement Unit (SAU). The incumbent should be an energetic person who has a passion for science and education.
Duties will include but is not limited to the following:
- Setting up and conducting curriculum related activities
- Exhibiting at different institutions
- Participation in Science festivals
- Liaise with schools
- Develop educational material
- Maintain exhibits
- Assist with securing grants
- Conducting awareness and curriculum activities with the SANSA Mobile Lab
- Public awareness of SANSA activities, such as open days, public lectures and a lot more
The ideal candidate will have:
- BSc degree in Science; Physics as a major will be advantageous
- At least 2 years experience as science educator or science outreach officer
- Willingness to travel, including travelling to rural areas
- Keen problem solving and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
Please NOTE that this vacancy exists in HERMANUS, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA and the successful applicant will need to be based in Hermanus.
