Incident Response:
- Oversee and coordinate containment, eradication, and recovery phases of security incidents.
- Develop and implement incident response playbooks, ensuring SANRAL can respond quickly and effectively to different types of threats.
- Lead the incident response team during critical security incidents, managing communication between stakeholders and security team.
Incident Investigation and Response:
- Lead investigation of the root cause of security incidents, performing post-incident analyses to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with forensic investigators to collect and analyse digital evidence and ensure proper chain-of-custody procedures are followed.
- Develop and maintain the SANRAL’s incident response plan (IRP), ensuring it aligns with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular table top exercises and simulations to test the effectiveness of the incident response plan and train staff on incident response procedures.
- Work with other departments (e.g., IT, legal, compliance) to ensure that the incident response plan integrates seamlessly across the organization.
- Lead post-incident reviews to identify gaps and implement improvements in processes, technologies, and training to prevent future incidents.
Reporting:
- Prepare detailed incident reports and presentations for SANRAL’s senior management, outlining the impact, resolution, and next steps following an incident.
- Provide regular updates on incident summaries, performance metrics, threat landscape insights, and compliance status to SANRAL’s leadership

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Familiarity with phone systems and operating a switchboard.
- Familiarity and working knowledge of general office machines (i.e. copier, printers, etc.).

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY SPECIALIST

POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Environmental and Safety Specialist is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of environmental and safety management systems, programmes, and procedures in line with legislative requirements, ISO 14001 and 18001 standards, and SANRAL’s operational objectives. The role will ensure ongoing compliance with applicable environmental and occupational health and safety regulations, conduct inspections and internal assessments, monitor contractor performance, and promote a culture of environmental responsibility across the organisation. The role will also provide technical guidance, assist with ISO audits, reviews, update environmental and safety procedures, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented to mitigate risk and maintain operational compliance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental sciences, health and safety or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6.
- A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience.
ADVANTAGEOUS
- ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

- Conduct contract close-out reviews to evaluate contractor HSE performance.
Performance Monitoring
- Monitor contractor performance against HSE standards, EMPs, and legal requirements.
- Enforce compliance and issue corrective actions for non-conformance.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action reporting.
Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, ISO standards, and SANRAL’s EMS/HSE frameworks.
- Liaise with regulators, auditors, and accredited service providers to maintain certification and compliance assurance.
- Identify and assess HSE risks, implementing mitigation strategies to reduce exposure.
- Provide management with reports and updates on risk trends and compliance status.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Partner with internal stakeholders (SHEQ, Procurement, Legal, and Operations) to integrate HSE requirements into planning and execution.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and regulators, to promote adherence to HSE standards.
- Facilitate awareness sessions and training to foster a culture of shared HSE accountability across SANRAL
Reporting
- Compile and present HSE compliance reports, risk registers, and KPI scorecards.
- Support monthly and ad-hoc reporting to Management Committees.
- Provide audit documentation and evidence for internal and external assessments.
