POSITION OBJECTIVE:
To ensure project management in respect of specific norms and standards, according to relevant legislation, and the efficient management of resources, time and budgets associated with projects under his/her control on macro level. To develop and maintain excellent working relationships with external stakeholders and to ensure required business results, by employing best practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: -
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
• BSc Degree or B Tech (Geotechnology); BSc Hons (Geotechnology will be an added advantage);
• A minimum of 8 years' relevant experience;
• Professional registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions) as Pr. Sci. Nat. preferably a registered Member of South African Institute of Engineering Geologist (MSAIEG) will be an added advantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To assess dolomite related risks and risk management of the road network;
• Give input on material and mining related issue;
• Assist with the management of the Property Services Portfolio;
• Provide Specialist Support to the Region on Survey and Property issues;
• Assist on spatial planning on problematic land;
• Drive research and innovation in material utilisation and alternative products;
• If MSc Candidate, then mentorship skills will be a requirement.
Identification of Key Projects and Solutions
• Participates in the identification and prioritising of projects/programme and/or research initiatives using data from relevant management system (e.g. PMS/BMS/IMS/TMS) and personal knowledge.
• Develop advanced relevant material/earth-scientific data management systems for material management as well as geological hazards to safeguard SANRAL' assets.
• Based on requirements of the project, prepare annual budget and proposed programme.
• Steer and manage ad hoc geotechnical/geological investigations.
Procurement Management
• Participates in the evaluation of tenders and appointment of specialist consultants and/or geotechnical/geophysical service providers.
• Prepare and review relevant scope documentation.
• Prepare relevant tender documentation, in association with specialist consultant/service provider, based on the site-specific geology and anthropogenic conditions.
• Attends site inspections and brief service providers on required specialist services.
• Participates in the adjudication of tenders and review recommendations by Consultants/service providers.
• Compile memorandum for approval in accordance with Supply Chain Management regulation and SANRAL' policies.
Project Management (Problem Solving-Earth Sciences)
• Visits sites on a regular basis to monitor progress against the project plan
• Monitors performance of projects through regular meetings with consultants and service providers in order to identify geotechnical/geological hazards.
• Conducts regular audits.
• Monitors financial performance to ensure the project remains within budget.
• Prepare monthly expenditure forecasts for each project.
• Review scope of work and potential financial impact on the budget and request additional funding if necessary (related geotechnical/geological aspects).
Specialist Support (Cluster Activities)
• Lead and/or actively participates in activities of relevant technical cluster and working groups (Materials and Environmental).
• Provides expert opinion and recommends appropriate solutions when required.
• Shares knowledge and experience with colleagues and subordinates.
Communication Management
• Maintains good working relationships with colleagues in other regions and/or areas of expertise.
• Cultivates and maintains good relationships with key stakeholders, consultants, service providers as well as the wider engineering and earth scientific community.
• Actively participate in the research publication and/or workshop mentorship space.
