MANAGING EXECUTIVE: CONSERVATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Park: Groenkloof (Head Office)
Description:
SANParks requires the services of a Managing Executive: Conservation Services Division. The position will be based at Groenkloof, Pretoria and report to the CEO.
Fixed-term contract for 5 years.
Paterson Grading F (Lower)
 
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Environment/Conservation
  • Experience in a Conservation related field 10 to 15 years
  • 5 to 10 years of management at the Senior/Executive level in the field of Conservation
  • Demonstrated Financial Management and Commercial skills.
  • A sound understanding of the legislative and corporate governance framework governing national parks.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in supply chain management
  • Relationship building and management of multiple and diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in the management of cultural heritage
  • Experience in the management of Protected and Conserved areas.
 
Qualifications and Experience which will provide an added advantage:
  • Doctorate degree in Environment/Conservation will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in socio-economic development
  • Communication, negotiations, networking and stakeholder management experience.
  • People management and Coaching skills.
  • Experience in supply chain management and public sector procurement policies and procedures.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing a comprehensive conservation strategy, including a network model incorporating local and international thought leaders in conservation and biodiversity management matters.
  • Provide strategic leadership on the conservation estate's land expansion and consolidation programmes.
  • Ensure that planning, implementation and monitoring of performance against set targets in line with SANParks corporate business is adhered to.
  • Lead in developing and improving relevant science-based research agenda that will provide sound guidance in decision-making.
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of a species management programme for the entire SANParks system of National Parks focusing on conservation and sustainable use.
  • Ensure the development, implementation and monitoring of the eco-system management program meant to enhance the conservation and ecological integrity of the National Park system.
  • Lead in conservation development and management discourse with a focus on, amongst others, aspects such as climate change and eco-system adaptation.
  • Ensure the development, implementation and monitoring of the cultural heritage strategy.
  • Ensure effective management and reporting on the implementation of the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) system for the National Park system.
  • Effectively advise SANParks on its responsibilities and participation in the relevant and strategic science-policy interface at national and international fora conventions and legislative bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with sound corporate governance and financial management practices and policies.
  • Provide leadership, ensure development and management of human capital, and effective change management and transformation within the division.
  • Ensure the implementation of sound Corporate Governance and effective financial management in line with the Public Finance Management Act.

MANAGER: REVENUE AND YIELD
Park: Groenkloof (Head Office)
Description:
The Organisation requires the services of a Manager: Revenue and Yield in the Tourism and Marketing Division. This position will be based at the Groenkloof National Park, Pretoria.
 
Requirements:
  • Be in possession of a B.Com Degree including statistics.
  • Should have Two (2) years of Front Office Management/Inventory management of a large hospitality or tourism business
  • Two (2) years as financial/yield manager in the travel and tourism industry.
  • Should also have two (2) years of experience in yield management and an experience in marketing and sales in the hospitality industry/travel and tourism industry will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in a dynamic pricing environment is an advantage.
  • High-level understanding of statistics.
  • Thorough understanding of revenue optimisation, marketing and sales environment.
  • An understanding of the tourism and conservation industry.
  • An understanding of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Sound knowledge of macroeconomics.
  • An understanding and the ability to apply principles of yield management.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyse historic and future trends in parks and overall tourism performance.
  • Analyse market trends and changing requirements of target markets as well as changing economic conditions.
  • Develop, in conjunction with operational management, the appropriate revenue management strategies to maximise yield.
  • Support the revenue budget initiatives of the organisation
  • Build and enhance relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop, review and improve tourism management information reports.
  • Coordinate the compilation of the revenue generation plan and report.
  • Monitor performance against revenue generation plan, report on variances and advise on possible remedial intervention.
  • Review the South African National Parks pricing model against industry best practices.

RANGER CORPORAL
Park: Addo Elephant National Park
Description:
A challenging vacancy currently exists for one (1) Ranger Corporal Position at Addo Elephant National Park.
The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B5 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.
The successful candidate will be required to stay inside the park and there is available accommodation.
 
Requirements:
  • A grade 12 certificate/NQF level 4
  • 5 years of field experience as a ranger.
  • 3 years of experience as a dog handler
  • Previous practical experience concerning natural resource management as mentioned in the second key performance area.
  • DH5 Level Dog Handler
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Code 8 driver's licence.
  • A healthy person with a high level of general fitness and mental alertness is required in this position.
  • The willingness to be based at an outpost throughout the park.
  • Field Ranger Basic or Advance Training
  • A firearm competency certificate
  • EMI Grade 5 minimum requirement/Peace officer certificate
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assistance with natural resource management that includes the management of invasive plants, unnatural soil erosion, veld fires and game counts, capture and culling.
  • Law enforcement that includes participating in regular foot and vehicle patrols and enforcing regulations within the Park by assisting with the control of visitors as well as staff and the assimilation, interpretation, and dissemination of information.
  • To maintain law, order and discipline to staff members, communities, and guests.
  • To execute anti-poaching operations, through deployment, observation posts and camping.
  • To assist Ranger Sergeant with long-term routine tasks.
  • To maintain a high standard of administration.
  • Conduct inspections with the aid of a detector dog for the examination of passengers, and baggage, for regulated articles.
  • Provide canine support at identified Joint Operations and Routine inspections.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the canine's health, well-being and training.
  • Assist with secondary inspections when not conducting dog handling duties and Manage assets such as canines, kennels and working equipment.
  • Conduct follow-up of crime scenes, tracking, assisting in detection, searches and access control duties.

PROJECT MANAGER: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT (2 POSITIONS)

Description:
The Organisation requires the services of two Project Managers: Business Development in the Tourism and Marketing Division. These positions will be based at Groenkloof National Park, Pretoria.
 
Requirements:
  • Be in possession of a Business Degree in Commerce, Tourism, Project Management or relevant.
  • Must have 6 years of management experience, PPP Implementation experience will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the planning and implementation and post-award management of Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects on behalf of SANParks, exercising delegated authority.
  • Consult with the management of SANParks at all relevant stages in the PPP project cycle and ensure ongoing consultation and buy-in from relevant stakeholders.
  • Directly support General Manager: Business Development Unit to comply with the requirements of Treasury Regulation 16 to the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (PFMA) and all strategic objectives of the Business Development Unit.
  • Diligently manage the projects from inception to signing of the PPP agreement and financial closure.
  • Ensure that the projects are affordable to SANParks, provide optimal value-for-money solutions, and appropriately allocate risk to the private parties.
  • Manage all information systems necessary for the proper planning and implementation of the projects.
  • Proactively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to optimise opportunities for project success.
