COMMIS CHEF
Park: Golden Gate Highlands National Park
 
Description:
A vacancy currently exists for a Commis Chef at the Golden Gate Hotel in Golden Gate Highlands National Park. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chef De Partie and his/her primary responsibility will be to manage the designated area in the kitchen.
The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B3 job grade, allowances and benefits will be as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service of SANParks.
 
Requirements:
  • NQF level 4 Certificate in Professional Cookery Or Equivalent
  • 3 years experience in a similar position
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Interaction with guests
  • Should enjoy working with people
  • Should be able to work long hours
  • Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety in a kitchen environment.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that the designated station is properly staffed, set up and operating as scheduled, and stocked up with supplies for the next day’s menu and in accordance with anticipated meal counts.
  • The preparation of all food items in the designated station, ensuring the right quantity as per standardised recipes and full adherence to SANPARKS standards in quality and the SOPs.
  • Effectively dealing with any operational issues that may arise, ensuring standards are not affected.
  • Assisting in other sections of the kitchen as and when needed.
  • Participating in perpetual, monthly and yearly stock-taking
  • Applying and understanding corrective actions in regard to Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Guaranteeing safety, hygiene and sanitation is practised and present through inspecting designated stations on a regular basis, this includes safe storing and packing of raw materials and ensuring the cleanliness of all areas in the designated workplace.
  • Receives items and ensures proper storage until needed.
  • Assuring the adherence to SOP in terms of HACCP, food quality, preparation, recipes and presentation at all times.
  • Ensuring preventative maintenance of all equipment is continuous and they are in safe working condition and reported immediately.

RECEPTIONIST (TSITSIKAMMA SECTION)
Park: Garden Route National Park
 
Description:
A vacancy currently exists Receptionist at the Garden Route National Park in the Tsitsikamma Section: Storms River Mouth Rest Camp. The successful candidate will report to the Front Office Supervisor.
The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B5 job grade, allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service of SANParks.
The successful candidate will be accommodated within the Park.
Preference will be given to applications within the Garden Route (Mossel Bay, George to Port Elizabeth).
The appointment will be in accordance with EE plan targets.
 
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 (Matric certificate)
  • Working knowledge and experience of a Reservation system
  • Twelve months of practical experience in Tourism front office-related work
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Word and Excel
  • Working overtime and working on weekends & public holidays are required: 6 days, 45 hours per week.
 
Added advantages:
  • National Tourism/Hotel management diploma or equivalent qualifications will serve as an added advantage.
  • Good administration skills and sound interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English and two other languages of the area.
 
Responsibilities:
  • To receive and direct telephone calls where specified and to relay telephone messages timeously.
  • Effectively communicating with guests and providing them with information about facilities and activities at the Tsitsikamma Section of Garden Route National Park.
  • To welcome visitors, allocate accommodation and attend to queries from guests.
  • Accepting payments from guests, capturing financial transactions and balancing cash on a daily basis on the SANParks reservation system.
  • Closing work shifts on SANParks reservation system (Roomseeker) and acting as shift supervisor when instructed by Front Office Supervisor, Duty Manager or HSM.
  • To maintain a constant supply of organizational brochures for distribution in the brochure racks.
  • When required, provide information and promotional material to guests.
  • To perform general administration relevant to the Reception, Entrance Gate and Information Centre.
  • Conduct ad-hoc administration duties as and when requested by the Front Office Supervisor.
  • Conducting Gate Official/Gate Administrator duties from time to time as and when needed.
  • Conducting boat operation office-related duties from time to time as and when needed.
  • To adhere to the company dress code and protocol.

RANGER SERGEANT (MARINE)
Park: Table Mountain National Park
 
Description:
A vacancy currently exists for a Ranger Sergeant in Table Mountain National Park. The Successful candidate will be reporting to the relevant Section Ranger.
Paterson Grading: C1 (R268,705.46 - R438,891.69)
The cost-to-company remuneration package based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson C1 job grade will be offered. The successful candidate will have to provide their own accommodation as there is no official accommodation in the park.
 
Requirements:
  • National Diploma in Conservation with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience or Field Ranger accredited training with 5 years relevant experience; Field Ranger with Grade 12 (Std 10) and 6 years relevant experience
  • Practical experience in marine and coastal environment including joint operations with other law enforcement agencies and terrestrial, or practical or knowledge in alien clearing, erosion control, monitoring, environmental crimes law enforcement and fire management is required;
  • Working knowledge of relevant conservation legislation MLRA, NEM: PAA, NEM:MBA, Criminal Procedure Act etc.
  • Computer literacy - Microsoft Office, especially MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint;
  • Valid code 8 driver's license will be essential
  • No criminal record. Police Clearance checks will be conducted.
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of MS Office especially MS Word, MS Excel)

Responsibilities:
  • Law enforcement that will include participating and organizing regular boat, foot and vehicle patrols, assistance with the safety and security of visitors and control of visitor's behaviour and also the assimilation, interpretation and dissemination of information as tasked;
  • Assist with implementation of approved Conservation Policy according to agreed management and operational plans as well as stipulations of relevant legislation.
  • Assist with natural resources management that includes the implementation of evasive plants, alien animals, footpath, jeep tracks, boardwalks, soil erosion and rehabilitation management system as well as large herbivore management (game capture, culling and monitoring);
  • Perform and supervise general maintenance tasks such as infrastructure, building management fencing water points and roads.
  • Assist with access control, traffic flow and visitor management functions
  • Assist with and respond to fire management functions including fire breaks, stack preparation and burning and biodiversity burns.
  • Planning of day-to-day patrols and efficient use of manpower to effectively ensure area integrity of the section;
  • Perform basic administration functions and supervision of staff with respect to rosters, pocketbooks, logbooks, leave registers, daily attendance registers, daily reporting, and stock control in stores;
  • Assist with the training and re-training of staff under your control, and;
  • Managing and handling discipline/disputes/conflict between staff members under your control.
  • Perform standby and weekend duties as per roster; and
  • Issuing fines and providing evidence in court when necessary

Description:

Responsibilities:
  • Develop SANParks Youth development Policy, Strategy and implementation guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of SANParks Youth development strategy.
