SENIOR MANAGER: INTERGRATED LAND USE MANAGEMENT
 
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Senior Manager: Integrated Land Use Management in the Kruger National Park, reporting to the General Manager: Regional Integration and Planning. The position will be based in Skukuza.
 
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of strategies that ensure sustainable and efficient use of land resources. This role integrates environmental, social, and economic considerations into land use planning and works closely with stakeholders to develop policies, frameworks, and initiatives that promote sustainable development and climate resilience.

Requirements
  • An MSc qualification in Environmental Management, Development Studies, Biodiversity Conservation, or a related field. (NQF 9 Essential).
  • A PhD in a related field (NQF level 10), (an added advantage).
  • Professional Registration with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) or EAPASA or SACNASP.
  • 5–10 years of experience in areas such as environmental management, land use planning, protected area stewardship, biodiversity economy, socio-economic development, and project management; essential skills include leadership, spatial and GIS planning, database management, stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and a strong understanding of SANParks policies, corporate governance, spatial planning instruments, data monitoring systems, and the legislative and policy frameworks governing biodiversity, conservation, and rural development.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office software package and a valid driver’s license.
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills- written & verbal, interpersonal, and report writing skills.
 
Responsibilities
  • To provide strategic oversight for the KNP Regional Integration and Great Limpopo Transfrontier conservation Area programmes in the KNP Management Plan.
  • Managing teams, fostering collaboration, and providing expert guidance on land-related matters.
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive land use plans that promote sustainable, efficient, and equitable development.
  • Reviewing and analysing land use plans, ensuring compliance with relevant land use regulations and zoning codes.
  • Providing input into spatial planning Frameworks, Policies, and Guidelines.
  • Managing the planning and implementation of development projects and programs.
  • Ensuring projects align with integrated development plans (IDPs) and strategic plans.
  • Managing budgets for land use planning and development activities, including tracking expenditures and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Overseeing the development of local area concept plans and financing options.
  • Coordinating with various stakeholders, including internal/external departments, partners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to land use planning teams.

SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL PARKS EXTERNAL BURSARY PROGRAMME: CALL FOR 2026 INTAKE
 
The South African National Parks (SANParks) is looking for aspiring youth entering their first year of undergraduate studies in the 2026 academic year to join our external bursary programme.
 
 What SANParks does
South African National Parks (SANParks) was established in terms of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No 57 of 2003). The primary mandate of SANParks is to oversee the conservation of South Africa’s biodiversity, landscapes, and associated heritage assets through a system of national parks. It also must ensure that South Africans participate and get involved in biodiversity initiatives, and that all its operations have a synergistic existence with neighbouring communities for their educational and socioeconomic benefit.
One of the strategic directions of SANParks is growing community support, providing access, benefit-sharing and benefit local communities, thus the call for applications for the bursary opportunity. This bursary scheme is intended to benefit   children residing in communities neighbouring or adjacent to of the National Parks and will be implemented by the SANParks.
 
Bursary Application

  • Environmental Sciences including Nature Conservation, Environmental management, Green Energy, Environmental Engineering, sustainable development and Game ranch management
  • Tourism including Hospitality Management, Resort Management, Tour guide, Events and Conference Management.
  • Social Sciences including Community Development, Economic Development, Socio-Economic Development and related Development studies
 
THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE BURSARY
Academic merit will be considered during the selection process, as well as the imperative to increase the participation of women, people living with disability and designated groups.
 
Requirements
  • Recipients of the SANParks bursary Scheme must be South African citizens.
  • They must be learners from communities living adjacent to National Parks as defined in their management plans. Attach a link to find the Management plans on SANParks Website.
  • Proof of application and admission to an accredited institution of Higher Education eligibility for funding.
  • Must be entering post matric study in 2026.
  • The bursary is open to students who are pursuing a qualification in a TVET college.
  • Must be youth 18 – 35
 
For students currently registered at Institution of Higher Education, they must have a 100% pass rate to be considered (passed all the courses for which you have registered for at the university for the study period already completed).

A fixed-term position currently exists for a Wildlife Driver (B3) to assist in capture, holding, transport and relocation of animals according to agreed deliverables at Veterinary Wildlife Services Kimberley Office.

Requirements
  • Grade 12.
  • 1 years experience in the wildlife capture industry will be an added advantage.

PROCESS OPERATOR
A vacancy currently exists for a Process Operator at the Technical Department of the GRNP: Tsitsikamma Section. The appointed candidate will report to the Technical Officer and will be required to reside in official accommodation within the park.

Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric Certificate) with Mathematics and Science.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Code B or higher)
  • Minimum of 2 years practical experience in water purification or wastewater treatment operations.
  • National Certificate: Water and Wastewater Process Operations NQF Level 2 (or equivalent SETA-accredited qualification).
  • Proficiency in at least two official South African languages, including English (verbal and written communication).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and its application in water treatment facilities.
 
Additional Competencies:
  • First Aid Level 1 Certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Basic mechanical and chemical handling knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret process flow diagrams and plant operating instructions.

  • Checking and cleaning of bio-filters to ensure effective operation.

  • Visual inspection of sewer pipelines daily and reporting of any leaks.

  • Sufficient chemical dosing: Check and ensure that Flocculent drums are kept full.
  • Clean sand filters and setting ponds.
  • Water purification by checking and testing water.
  • Visiting all reservoirs daily to check the water level.
  • Inspect main water pumps and pump lines daily to ensure sustainable water supply.
  • Record water meter readings and chemicals used.
  • Complete control sheets for water used during the day.
  • Swimming Pool maintenance e.g. sweeping and scrubbing pool floor as required.
  • Clean filter rooms, filters and pumps.
  • Standby duties when required.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a Team.

​TOURISM MONITORS PROGRAMME

 
The appointment of 250 participants for the implementation of the SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL PARKS (SANParks) Tourism Safety Monitor Programme under the Department of Tourism.
People living with disabilities are also encouraged to apply. The Department of Tourism hereby invites applications from interested candidates to be part of the SANParks Tourism Monitors Programme for seven (7) months. Candidates are encouraged to apply only to municipalities and establishments within their residential/ local areas. Please note that successful candidates will be required to sign a 7-month contract with SANParks, appointed by the Department of Tourism, and deployed at attractions/sites closer to their residence. The programme will be implemented for 7 months, which includes theoretical training and practical experience. The Tourism Monitors Programme forms Part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). The programme will include theoretical training and practical experience. Requirements
  • Be a South African citizen (Certified copy of an Identity Document).
  • Be unemployed youth between the ages of 18 to 35.
  • Be in possession of a matric certificate or any equivalent qualifications.
  • Be literate and conversant in English.
  • Tertiary qualifications in tourism or environmental-related fields will be an added advantage.
  • Stay within a 40km – 100km radius of the attractions/ sites/National Park. Proof of residence will be required (e.g. municipality bill or letter from a tribal authority or ward councillor.
  • Be able to work flexible hours (e.g., weekends, public holidays and as-and-when required.
  • Have a passion or interest in the tourism sector.
  • Must have own reliable transport to and from workplace/ station.
  • Where possible, accommodation will be provided in camps away from the access gate.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be subjected to fitness tests, which may include: 2,4 km run, ability to do 25 pushups and 25 sit-ups, which should be done within a specific time frame.
  • Successful candidates are then granted an interview.
