SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT PRACTITIONERS (6 POSITIONS)
 
The Organisation requires the services of 6 Supply Chain Management Practitioners in the Supply Chain Management Division. This position will be based at Groenkloof National Park, Pretoria.
Location GROENKLOOF NATIONAL PARK (HEAD OFFICE)
 
Requirements
  1. Be in possession of a Post Diploma / Degree in Supply Chain Management.
  2. Should be a Specialist in SCM with 1 to 3 years of experience in the public sector.
  3. Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act.
  4. Knowledge of procurement policy framework
  5. Knowledge of logistics management
  6. Knowledge of SANParks business
  7. Legal knowledge in relation to Supply Chain Management.
  8. Knowledge of the National Supplies Procurement Act.
  9. Knowledge of the Republic of South Africa.
  10. Knowledge of computer literacy.
  11. Managerial skills and analytical skills
  12. Negotiation and facilitation skills
  13. Organisational skills.
 
Responsibilities
  1. Maintain regional contract registers used as mechanisms to monitor annual payments to service providers.
  2. Coordinate the identification of regional procurement needs as informed by the annual procurement plan, business plan, and budget.
  3. Provide expert, advice to end-users regarding the development of short and long-term service level agreements for repeat purchases in conjunction with the Supply Chain Corporate Office.
  4. Build, maintain, and manage stakeholder relations.
  5. Monitor and report on supply chain transactions as per the directive from the corporate supply chain office.
  6. Manage risks associated with the procurement of services and goods.
  7. Manage and auditable administrative system of the region’s assets.
  8. Continuously manage and appraise submissions of the supplier database.
  9. Coordinate and maintain the pre-vendor qualification directory.
  10. Continuously evaluate the quality of goods and services rendered by the suppliers and assess their performance.

RHINO MONITOR
 
A vacancy exists in the Garden Route & Frontier Research Node within Scientific Services for a Rhino Monitor based in the Addo Elephant National Park.
Location ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK
 
Requirements
  1. Minimum of a National Diploma in the relevant  environmental sciences (e.g. nature conservation, etc);
  2. At least 1 year’s experience in a protected area and/or other appropriate environmental or wildlife management role;
  3. Sound understanding and demonstrated experience in large mammal monitoring methods e.g. camera trapping, and aerial census.
  4. A Valid Code B driver’s license is essential;
  5. 4×4 driving skills/experience are essential;
  6. Firearm competency is essential;
  7. Demonstrated experience and ability to conduct monitoring surveys in a helicopter and fixed-winged aircraft are essential;
  8. Excellent computer skills with demonstrated experience with MS Excel and Word is essential;
  9. Proficiency in English, with good communication and report writing skills are essential;
  10. Interest and aptitude for biological monitoring and research;
  11. Knowledge of the use of data management tools (Cybertracker, Cmore, Earth Ranger) is a strong advantage;
  12. Be able to work under pressure and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines;
  13. Willingness to work and sleep in remote sections of the park;
  14. Physically fit and passionate about conservation and biodiversity.
  15. A compulsory polygraph test will be conducted prior to the appointment.
 
Responsibilities
  1. Assist with field-based monitoring of rhinos and data collection using fixed wing, camera trap, helicopter and foot-based techniques;
  2. Assist with management and maintenance of camera traps in field
  3. Downloading and sorting of camera trapping data;
  4. Assist with downloading and capturing of all rhino monitoring data from various monitoring approaches;
  5. Support the management and maintenance of assets and equipment;
  6. Assist with game guarding duties for SANParks and/or visiting researchers when needed.

BIOTECHNICIAN: RHINO MONITOR
 
An exciting vacancy currently exists in the Garden Route & Frontier Research Node within Scientific Services for a Rhino Monitoring Biotechnician based in Addo Elephant National Park. The incumbent will work in a strong team to deliver on the stringent and audited Wildlife Conservation Bond data requirements. S/he must be able to work independently in the field, often alone and/or in remote areas with dense vegetation, be fit and able to work under harsh conditions and/or from an aircraft and pay meticulous attention to detail. Furthermore, significant work is required on data management aspects of the project, requiring precision and excellent data management skills and experience.
Location ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK
 
Requirements
  1. Advanced National Diploma or degree in the environmental sciences (nature conservation, ecology, or zoology);
  2. At least 3 years experience in a protected area and/or other environmental or wildlife monitoring support role;
  3. At least 3 years experience in field-based rhino monitoring in a big game area is essential;
  4. Sound understanding of large mammal monitoring methods is essential e.g. camera trapping & aerial surveys;
  5. Excellent knowledge and experience in the use of data management tools such as Cybertracker, Cmore & Earth Ranger are essential;
  6. A valid Code B driver’s license is essential;
  7. 4×4 driving skills/experience are essential;
  8. A National Pilots License with a minimum of 200 flying hours is a strong advantage;
  9. Excellent computer skills with demonstrated experience with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint, is essential;
  10. Proficiency in English, writing skills and report writing skills are essential;
  11. Interest and aptitude for biological monitoring and meticulous data recording and capturing are essential;
  12. Must be able to work under pressure and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines;
  13. Must be able to frequently undertake physically demanding fieldwork in rugged environments and dense vegetation;
  14. Willingness to work, travel and sleep in remote sections of the park;
  15. Firearm competency will be a strong added advantage;
  16. A compulsory polygraph test will be conducted prior to the appointment.
 
Responsibilities
  1. Assist with managing the implementation of, and actively participating in, field-based monitoring of rhinos using fixed wing, helicopter, camera trap and foot-based techniques,
  2. Manage and maintain camera traps and sort, manage and archive camera trapping data,
  3. Download, verify and capture all rhino monitoring data and assist with other monitoring data collection where needed,
  4. Assist with compiling reports for the Wildlife Conservation Bond project which has very tight deadlines and requires high levels of accuracy and accountability,
  5. Assist with maintaining the Addo Elephant National Park rhino database,
  6. Interact with project sponsors and give presentations to sponsors on the work and project as and when required,
  7. Manage and maintain all relevant assets and equipment,
  8. Diverse administration tasks: budgeting, procurement, equipment maintenance, work planning and reporting.
