GEF 7 BIODIVERSITY ECONOMIC PROJECTS LEAD

Description:
A vacancy exists for the position of Biodiversity Economic Projects Lead for the implementation of the Greater Kruger activities for the project "Catalyzing Financing and Capacity for the Biodiversity Economy around Protected Areas". This project is supported by the World Bank and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to leverage financial resources and improve the capacity to implement the Biodiversity Economy and increase benefits from selected Protected Area landscapes to local communities. The project will seek to transform South Africa's wildlife economy to become inclusive and sustainable, supporting land reform beneficiaries and other communities in the project landscapes. The position will be based in the KNP region and will report to the General Manager: KNP Regional Integration and Planning. The package offered will be pending the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
NB. The appointment will be made in line with the Employment Equity Plan.

Requirements:
- Experience in business development studies
- Understanding of and experience in conservation-compatible rural economic development
- Economic development strategies, business financing, business taxation, land use policy and commercial development
- Community-based natural resource management (CBNRM)
- Promoting and optimising Nature positive investments
- Responsible Resource Use Management and Community Stewardship
- Ability to align relevant policies and strategies at global, national provincial and local levels applicable to socio-economic development within this project context
- Knowledge of socio-economic development trends, issues and solutions at different scales/levels in relation to Conservation, Commercial and Community considerations
- Application of techniques used in researching and analyzing economic development opportunities
- Adherence to principles and practices of program/project management
- Work independently with only general oversight
- Develop trusted relationships and partnerships with a cross-section of stakeholders, guided by relevant governance structures in order to ensure the sustainability of interventions and outcomes
- Ensure effective communication across the board
- Self-direct, intrinsically motivated to accomplish tasks and anticipate future requirements and adaptability
- Appropriate post-graduate qualification in the field of Business/Economic Development
- The package will depend on the conceptual understanding and experience within this field
- Exposure to working within Protected Areas (PAs)
- Experience of working within the Greater Kruger region in relation to the Biodiversity economy
- Be able to interact with a wide range of stakeholders and cultures, especially rural communities
- Demonstrated report writing skills
- Excellent verbal and written competency in English
- A valid driver's license (Code EB) accompanied by a willingness and ability to travel (note: own vehicle required).
Responsibilities:
- Operationalize Socio-Economic Activity Plans & Workstreams delivering on the nodal Biodiversity Economy programme, complementing existing relevant initiatives within the Greater Kruger Landscape
- Oversee the socio-economic scoping of projects of various sizes and in various stages
- Oversee the research, analysis, preparation and presentation of feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis and business plans within the Greater Kruger GEF 7 node
- Facilitate Transaction Advisory support services, including associated Consultancies
- Facilitate SMME incubation & development linked to Supply Chains, including associated Consultancies
- Investigate and mobilise alternative finance opportunities, in collaboration with Greater Kruger Landscape partners
- Provide CPPP (Community-Public-Private Partnerships) oversight
- Provide support to training on business planning/expansion; mentorship and grants, the roll-out of the IFC Financing strategic framework and other innovative financing outcomes
- Oversee the Greater Kruger Socio-Economic Impact assessment reporting
- Serve as the primary point of contact for engagement with GEF 7 partners in economic development such as community organisations/structures, private-sector business leaders, local government, NGOs etc
- Participate in the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area (GLTFCA) Cooperative Agreement and partner platforms and programmes

SENIOR MANAGER: LABOUR LAW AND GOVERNANCE

Description:
SANParks currently offers an appropriately qualified and experienced person this challenging career opportunity. This position will be based at Groenkloof National Park.
Requirements:
- Be in possession of a Legal degree (BJuris, BProc, LLB) and Admitted Attorney.
- 10 Years of administrative law; 5 years should be in a managerial role.
- 5 years of administrative law-related experience (PAIA and PAJA), PFMA, Labour Law and Interpretation of statutes.
- Thorough knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, and coordinating people and resources.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to the Human Capital Management Department.
- Provide support in respect of labour issues within the organisation.
- Facilitate the establishment of a legislative committee.
- Ensure that SANParks policies are compliant with applicable legislation and advice on general policy matters.
- Coordinate legislative comments within the organization and address comments to the relevant government department.
- Provide legal support to ensure overall compliance with relevant legislation.
- Conduct research and provide legal opinions in respect of Labour and Employment Law, and Compliance and Governance issues.
- Manage litigation relating to the unit.
- Attend to PAIA's requests in support of the information officer.
- Resolve potential legal disputes and negotiate settlement terms
- Build, enhance and maintain stakeholder relationships.
