HORTICULTURIST: KWELERA

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individuals to provide horticultural and conservation services to Kwelera National Botanical Garden.
 
This position requires a national or advanced diploma or degree in Horticulture or equivalent and relevant qualification with NQF 6 or 7. A degree or postgraduate qualification or equivalent and relevant qualification at NQF 7 or 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 2-3 years’ experience in relevant field.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct garden planning and development;
  • Coordinate the curation of living collections;
  • Promote and conduct horticultural research and development; and
  • Participate and promote plant conservation and to work in collaboration with other role players.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires enthusiastic, motivated individual to manage the strategic projects and operational component of the Groen Sebenza Programme in Western Cape Region to ensure for achievement of Groen Sebenza Programme strategic goals.
 
This position requires the candidate to be in possession of a degree in Natural Sciences, Public Administration, Business Management, or relevant field or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage, as would a module/short course/certificate in project management.  This position also requires 6 years’ experience in a relevant field, at least 3 years of which should be in project administration or as a project officer.

This position requires an advanced diploma or degree in Nature Conservation,  or equivalent and relevant  qualification at NQF 7. A relevant postgraduate degree at NQF level 8 or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage. This position also requires a minimum of 6 years’ working experience in Conservation, Estate and Facility Management in an eco-tourism environment.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: experience/exposure to tourism, nature based tourism, management, urban conservation, wildland fires; understanding of national and global biodiversity conservation, alien invasive control; knowledge of legislation pertaining to biodiversity conservation; knowledge of the management of organisational finance; project management knowledge and skills; and knowledge of Government Human Resources, procurement and financial management policies. HORTICULTURAL CONSERVATION WORKER 2

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to render support to the maintenance of garden flower beds and cultivation of plants material for display and conservation.
 
This position requires a  Grade 10, Job Specific Qualification, or equivalent qualification at NQF 2 with 2 years of work experience in the relevant field, OR Grade 12, Job Specific Qualification, or equivalent qualification at NQF 4 with 1 year of work experience in the relevant field.  A Higher Education Qualification, Job Specific Qualification or equivalent qualification at NQF 5 will be an added advantage.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: interpersonal skills; ability to communicate in English (read and write); Horticulture Training or Knowledge in any garden related maintenance work; use of pesticides and insecticides. Be willing to work as part of a team when required.
 
Key performance responsibilities include:
  • Provide support in garden planning, development and maintenance;
  • Propagate plants and nursery maintenance;
  • Assist in managing equipment and tools;
  • Support internal and external clients; and
  • Adhere to health and safety requirements.

SENIOR TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT PRACTITIONER

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide administrative and technical support to SANBI’s training and development function and to be the point of contact for all training, WIL student and intern matters.
 
This position requires a Degree in Human Resources Development or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification in Human Resources Development or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 4 years of work experience in relevant field.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: advanced experience and training as a Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) is essential; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook). The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel;.
 
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Facilitate and implement workplace skills planning;
  • Facilitate the recruitment, selection and appointment of interns and work-integrated learning (WIL) students;
  • Process payment for staff training, staff bursaries and postgraduate student bursaries;
  • Maintain information systems pertaining to staff training, WIL students, postgraduate students and interns; and
  • Administer expenditure relating to training and development matters.
