ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: DEMAND MANAGEMENT

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide support and professional advice to all SANBI Business Units with regard to SCM policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks which are governed by the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, and other Legislation on matters related to Presidential Youth Economic Intervention (PYEI).
 
This position requires an advanced diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Financial Science, Logistics or equivalent and relevant qualification with NQF 7. Postgraduate qualification or equivalent and relevant qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. 6 years’ experience in the relevant field, 3 years of which should be in the supervisory position(s).
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: extensive knowledge and understanding of legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to supply chain management is essential; in-depth knowledge of Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, Generally Recognised Accounting Practice is essential; proven ability to work under pressure with the diverse team whilst being quality and cost conscious is essential; advanced planning, organizing, interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) is essential. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.
 
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Manage terms of reference process;
  • Manage briefing process;
  • Manage quotation process;
  • Assist in skills transfer; and
  • Compile Management reports.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

The South African National Biodiversity Institute requires a motivated, professional, and responsible team player to provide strategic direction to ensure applicable measures to maintain responsible and accountable occupational health and safety management within SANBI at both the national and corporate levels and ensure that SANBI complies with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act no. 85 of 1993 and related regulations.
 
This position requires a degree in Human Resources Management, Health & Safety Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. Honours degree or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. 8 years’ experience in relevant field, 4 years of which should be in first line management position(s).
 
The successful candidate must have the ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, ability to work independently, and in a diverse team; advanced planning, organizing, negotiation skills, accuracy and attention to detail, strategic thinking, and ability to work with limited supervision are essential; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook)..Registration with Safety Management Professional Council/ Institute The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

SENIOR ARTISAN – GENERALIST

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to repair and maintain existing infrastructure and help with the development of new infrastructure by providing approved building standards.
 
This position requires a Trade Certificate with a Red Seal in plumbing, irrigation systems, project management, OR equivalent at NQF Level 5. Higher Education Qualification at NQF 6 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 5 years of technical work experience in the relevant field of Artisanship.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: extensive experience in facilities management, plumbing, building, irrigation systems, and project management is essential;  comprehensive knowledge about buildings, and approval of building standards; good knowledge of government human resources, procurement, and financial management policies, procedures, and processes; advanced planning, organizing, and problem solving skills; ability to work under pressure whilst being safety conscious including ability to work with diverse team; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. SENIOR TECHNICIAN: DETECTION AND ERADICATION

The South African National Biodiversity Institute is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide technical support for detection and eradication of emerging invasive species in the region through managing field trips, data-co-ordination, awareness raising, scientific literature searches and administration.
 
This position requires the candidate to be in possession of an advanced diploma or degree in Life Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. Postgraduate qualification or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 3 years’ experience in the relevant field, with knowledge of project and event management.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management; advanced experience in the implementation of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to invasion biology; good project management skills including systemic visualization of various projects entailing a programme; attention to detail in dealing with budgeting, excellent financial management, reporting and procurement skills; advance knowledge and experience for planning, organizing, problem solving, and statistical report writing skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook).   • Support the Regional and Departmental Units to achieve their outcomes;

CANDIDATE AUXILIARY SERVICE OFFICER

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individuals to assist the Senior Artisan to ensure that all projects and maintenance requests are completed according to specification within the budget and time frames using quality assurance standards.
 
This position requires a Grade12, or equivalent at NQF Level 4. Relevant Higher Education Qualification at NQF 5 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 2 years’ of work experience in building, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate in English (read and write); ability to work under pressure; service focus; safety conscious; problem solving and a valid code B or C1 driver’s licence (Code C1).
 
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with construction services at the Garden;
  • Maintain infrastructure for Garden;
  • Provide support with the maintenance of equipment; and
