The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a creative, self-disciplined and self-motivated individual with strong videography and editing skills to manage, direct and produce professional corporate videos, as well as attend to the design of  professional layout of creative and computer generated graphics for use in publications, online exhibitions, events, marketing material, etc., utilising devoted PC software (ADOBE AfterEffects, Premier Pro, Audition, Lightroom, Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator; and CorelDraw), and PC based hardware – all generated to the client’s satisfaction, within set timeframes and on budget.

This position requires a degree in Graphic Design or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 with the main focus on multimedia and digital design or equivalent qualification at NQF 7.  Honours or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. Additional knowledge and skills on digital corporate communications will be an added advantage. 4 years’ experience is required in the relevant field.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: project management knowledge and skills; ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision; in depth knowledge of the printing process and requirements, as well as repro experience; ability to do self-training in new design software; in depth knowledge of image editing techniques; basic knowledge of copyright restrictions; knowledge of design trends, software developments and photography; be quick at putting content together and reading; detail consciousness; be disciplined; takes initiative; be collaborative; be able to meet deadlines; be able to multitask; be adaptable; be passionate about Biodiversity; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written); must have report writing skills; people management skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Create layout and design;
  • Manage design projects with supervision from immediate supervisor; and
  • Perform administration duties and attend to other work-related developments.
