Biological Invasions Directorate
South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a highly motivated individual to manage the programme of work on biological invasions in the coastal region (Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape).
 
The manager will ensure successful implementation of projects on early detection and eradication planning of emerging invasive species, manage data and information for profiling risks and impacts posed by listed Invasive alien species, manage research and projects related to biological invasions in the region, and other strategic directorate’s projects and initiatives to assist SANBI to achieve its mandate.
 
The incumbent must be in possession of a relevant post-graduate degree or equivalent in environmental sciences or related fields enhanced by eight (8) years’ working experience in relevant projects of which four (4) years should be in management of large projects, with strategic partnerships and communication with different stakeholders.
 
 
Experience in project management, including budgeting, procurement, monitoring and evaluation will be required. A PhD in biological invasions or related field will be an added advantage.
 
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent analytical and conceptual abilities; advanced organizational skills; the ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations; problem-solving ability; and ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in writing.
 
The incumbent must have an excellent computer literacy as well as be in possession of a valid Code B (unendorsed) driver’s license with one-year practical driving experience.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Manage the implementation of the Detection, Eradication Planning and Coordination in Kwazulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and the Western Cape
  • Manage the contributions of these regions towards Directorate’s and SANBI’s compliance and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance of these Regions with corporate services (including Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, Administration, etc.).
  • Manage and supervise junior staff, interns and students towards human capital development and transformation in the sector.
