Vacancy: Enrolled Research Nurse, 12-Month Contract Renewable (Kraaifontein Community Health Centre [CHC])
Unit/Directorate: Non-Communicable Diseases Research Unit

The Non-Communicable Diseases Research Unit is looking for an experienced Enrolled Nurse who is familiar with and has experience in research field work. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the fieldwork at an allocated site/s under the supervision of the project manager and project coordinator. This will include interviewing and collecting biological specimens from research participants, overseeing the duties of field workers as well as administrative duties for the CaDERAL-MOPHADHIV Study, a clinical trial investigating mobile phone text messages as an intervention for patients living with HIV and hypertension.
 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Phlebotomy and coordination with laboratory responsible for biochemical analysis
  • Screening of blood results and coordination with health center staff if referral is necessary
  • Blood centrifugation
  • Adherence to study-specific standard operating procedures, safety recommendations and SAMRC guidelines and policies
  • Meet the study desired sample size and the follow up of participants as required
  • Administration of informed consents and study related electronic data collection
  • Liaising with clinic staff/research team for efficient participant recruitment and data collection
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Maintaining a good daily recording system to document field activities and enrolments
  • Share responsibility for clinical equipment and stock.
  • Compiling and submitting weekly reports
  • Maintaining regular contact with the study project manager/coordinator to provide updates on progress and challenges
  • Other duties as assigned by the project management team
  • Assisting research staff members with other tasks, when needed
 
 
Core Requirements:
  • Two-year nursing diploma
  • Registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC) as Enrolled Nurse / Staff Nurse
  • Minimum of 2-years related working experience
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice or a valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice
  • Computer literate and experienced in using electronic devices for data collection (tablet, laptop, smart phones)
  • Be fully bilingual, English/Afrikaans or isiXhosa (be able to read, write and communicate fluently)
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of clinic routines and administration
  • Reside near Kraaifontein CHC and be able and willing to use public transport to travel to the CHC. Alternative have own transport to commute to the CHC.
 
Added Advantages:
  • Previous experience working in a research setting, which includes data collection and quality control
  • Project management skills or experience
  • Demonstrate excellent technical and interpersonal skills
  • Be willing to assist project staff in day to day tasks
  • Driver’s license
 


A salary in the region of R193 585 per annum, cost-to-company.
