STEWARD

Job Purpose
- Housekeeping of cabins, alleyways, saloons, lounges, and mess rooms.
- Assist the cook, as and when required in making salads, taking stores and stock take.
- Washing up of crockery and cutlery, as and may be required.
- Serve meals as and when required in officers mess room and duty mess.
- Where applicable, assist with the washing and ironing of ships laundry, bedding, linen etc.
Key Performance Areas
- Safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations, in accordance with the Master' instructions, relevant legislation, and the Company's SMS.
- Knowledge of, adherence to, and implementation of the Company's various policy statements.
- Always maintains a high standard of personal hygiene.
- Assist the cook in any other operations or work, as and may be required, from time to time.
The ideal candidate
REQUIREMENTS
- Be a South African citizen and have a valid passport.
- Holds a valid SAMSA Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) in Basic Training. An efficient cooks CoP would be an added advantage.
- Previous experience as steward and/or catering assistant onboard merchant vessels.
- Holds a valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (without restrictions or limitations) and cleared fit to handle food.
- Is fluent in written and spoken English.
- Able to follow instructions and procedures.
- Able to deliver results and meet client expectations.
- A team player with a professional work ethic.
- Will comply to strict company and industry SHEQ standards and working habits.
LEGISLATIVE COMPLIANCE
- Compliance with the requirements of the Merchant Shipping Act (MSA), MLC (Maritime Labour Act) and STCW (Standards for Certification, Training, Certification and Watchkeeping).
- Compliance with the requirements of the POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act)
- Compliance to the provisions of the Marine Living Resources Act (MLRA) 18 of 1998
- Has no criminal record with the SAPS (South African Police Service) Criminal Record Center and willing to undergo a background check.
- Adhere to the company confidentiality requirements.
- Adhere to a strict zero tolerance Alcohol & Drug Policy.

ORDINARY & ABLE SEAFARER DECK (RATING)
MARITIME SPECIAL PROJECTS, CAPE TOWN
FIXED TERM CONTRACT until 31 OCTOBER 2026
Job Purpose
- Keep look-out by sight and sound when on navigational watchkeeping duties, reporting to the Officer of the Watch (OOW) as soon as vessels, navigational marks or objects are sighted or heard.
- In-port watchkeeping under supervision of the Officer of the Watch (OOW), tend to moorings as required.
- In-port gangway watch monitor the boarding and disembarkation of all persons as per the Ship's Security Plan (SSP) and report any breaches to the OOW and/or the Ships Security Officer (SSO).
Key Performance Areas
- Maintain the vessel by means of chipping and painting.
- Maintain deck machinery under the supervision of the Bosun.
- Perform Bridge Watchkeeping duties including helmsman.
- Perform look-out and security duties as required when steaming or alongside.
- Assist in mooring operations.
- General housekeeping.

ORDINARY & ABLE SEAFARER ENGINE (RATING)

Job Purpose
- Keep a vigilant watch by sight and sound in the engine room, when on Engine Room Watchkeeping duties and reporting to the Officer of the Watch (OOW) when anything is a concern.
- In-port watchkeeping under supervision of the Officer of the Watch (OOW), tend to the efficient running and operation of the engine room as required.
Key Performance Areas
- Engine room watchkeeping duties, as per the Chief Engineer standing orders and company procedures.
- Maintenance and upkeeping of the engine room as directed by the Chief-and/or Second Engineer.
- Carry out bunkering and fuel operations by monitoring soundings and flow rates as directed.
- Carry out operational maintenance of all deck machinery.
- Carry out gas-freeing and venting of tanks, including cleaning thereof.
- Partake in the general upkeep of the engine room and associated spaces.
- Sounding of relevant tanks on a regular basis as per instruction from the Chief-and/or Second Engineer.
- Assist in the monitoring of loading of HFO or IFO, MDO/GO and Lube Oil Bunkers

- Holds a valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (without restrictions or limitations).

ENGINE SURVEYOR X1
TYPE : PERMANENT

The above position reports to the Principal Officer.
JOB PURPOSE
To ensure vessels, seafarers and maritime service providers are compliant with applicable maritime legislation and relevant maritime Conventions; to give effect to the objectives of the
South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Instruments.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
▪ Ship Surveys and Inspections: Undertake all Statutory Surveys, Audits, and Inspections in accordance with applicable legislation and other relevant regulations relating to Marine Pollution Prevention and Safety. Give effect to our obligation under the Instruments relevant to the III Code (Tonnage, COLREGS, Load line, SOLAS, MARPOL)
▪ Examinations and Accreditations: Give full and complete effect to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 in accordance with the provisions of section A-I/8 of the STCW Code, whereby all training, assessment of competence, certification, including medical certification, endorsement and revalidation activities are carried out, by applying appropriate domestic legislation. Comply with the Quality Standards System of SAMSA to ensure alignment with STCW.
▪ Legislation Regulations and Policy:
- Review, recommend and contribute towards drafting maritime regulations and amendments.
- Review and Draft Marine Notices and Marine Circulars.
- Review, recommend and Draft SAMSA Policies and Procedures.
- Participate in ad hoc projects as and when required in line with level of responsibilities.
▪ Casualty/Incident Investigations: Undertake casualty / incident investigations. Produce reports and make recommendations timeously. Fulfil an expert witness role in a Marine Court of Enquiry.
▪ Stakeholder Management: Provide consultancy services to Industry Stakeholders. Participate in and report on local, regional, and international fora and make recommendations. Manage and engage with Stakeholders in accordance with SAMSA Core Values.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
▪ Chief Engineer > 3000kW (no limitation) COC
▪ STCW ancillary courses and any other equivalent training
▪ Sailed in rank of Second Engineer (seagoing experience) / or sailed in rank of Chief Officer (seagoing experience)
▪ Driver's License
▪ Own Transport
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
▪ Sailed in rank of Chief Engineer (seagoing experience)
▪ Maritime/Sea going experience for a period of 2-3 years in a management role.
▪ Driver's License
▪ Own Transport
▪ Preferred Medical Clearance Certificate – obtained from a SAMSA approved medical practitioner.
▪ Ability to travel as and when required.
▪ Valid Passport.
