ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief of Operations, this role is responsible for leading, directing and managing the following business units marketing and communication, stakeholder management, sponsorships, knowledge management and events management. The Portfolio Head must manage, develop and implement the business plan for the portfolio to ensure that policy and procedures are in line with its overall mandate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
■ Relevant Post-graduate qualification at Hons Level preferably with a Masters in Communication / Marketing / Public Relations / MBA; and Valid Driver’s Licence.
■ At least 10 years’ relevant experience of which at least 5 years have been at an equivalent level within a medium to large-sized organisation;
■ Sound understanding of the Local Government Sector;
■ Sound track record in effectively managing complex and sensitive stakeholder engagements at all levels.
KEY PERFORMANCE FOCUS AREAS
The successful incumbent will be expected to perform the following responsibilities:-
■ Marketing and Communications: Advise the management and leadership of SALGA on media, member and stakeholder relations to facilitated developing and maintaining a positive image of SALGA; Conduct periodic brand perception survey and stakeholder needs assessments;
■ Stakeholder Management: Build, manage and maintain healthy diverse workable internal relations and implement remedial actions where required; build, manage and maintain healthy external relations to assist in achievement of organisational goals;
■ Sponsorships: Contribute to the development of SALGA’s sponsorship management policy and support the institutionalisation of sound management practices in the implementation thereof; Develop and review sponsorship proposals; Ensure the coordination, consolidation and safekeeping of documentation relating to sponsorships throughout the process and value chain;
■ Knowledge Management: Disseminate information research and knowledge products to targeted audiences through email, post, website and facilitate engagement with the media the knowledge generated within the organisation; Facilitate a culture of knowledge management within the organization and create a better understanding of the knowledge economy by coordinating an internal knowledge exchange forum;
■ Events Management: Any other duties that may be required from time to time for the smooth running of the business; Create a good impression of SALGA at all times and adhere to company rules and standards, including when travelling to and from events and staying in accommodation; and ensure all stock is stored, handled and transported in line with company procedures, food hygiene legislation, health and safety guidelines and event regulations;
■ Financial Management: Develop and manage budget within own area of responsibility; Implement and effectively manage the approved budgets, report variances and monitor the implementation of remedial actions to minimise impact;
■ Governance, Compliance and Risk Management: Assign values to risks in order to understand financial implications of risk; Develop and maintain programme risk register and ensure that mitigation steps are applied; Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures;
■ People management and promoting a high performance culture: Drive and support organisational priorities by developing and implementing systems and processes to mobilise staff and apply current capacity where it is required, through effective consultation with peers; Lead, manage and equip staff in the area of responsibility so that they achieve their work objectives and work within an environment conducive to achieving required results.
