SENIOR TRAINING INSTRUCTOR
Status: Permanent
Location: Platorand Training Centre - Timbadola
Grade: C2
Reporting Line: Senior Practitioner: Processing & Apprentices
Role Mandate
Conduct Processing Technical training programs, Learnerships & Skills programs within area of responsibility to ensure all Learners are duly trained according to Company operational procedures & requirements & demonstrate the required competency levels when using equipment or machinery in accordance with Company policies, procedures, standards, & safety regulations.
Facilitate theoretical & practical training on site and assess the learners to ensure that each Learner demonstrate the required competence against accepted Company, QMS & RPL standards & policies.
Key Accountabilities
• Confirm the scheduling performed by the Training Administrator
• Arrange for the correct training material & ensure equipment required for the training is available and in good order according to Company protocol
• Prepare the facilitator guides, assessor portfolio & learner guides prior to the relevant training intervention using the accepted templates
• Ensure the facilitator guide, assessor portfolio, and learner guide is used in accordance with the accepted standards and procedures
• Adapt training style to align to learners’ level of understanding and competency
• Provide feedback to learners during formative activities
• Ensure that all training interventions have the correct assessor portfolio i.e., employees, contractors & learnerships and assessment evidence in accordance with the agreed assessment instrument
• Update training and assessment records & ensure that these contain all relevant information for the personal files
• Provide summative feedback to the learner and the Supervisor or other stakeholders after training is completed
• Participate in the improvement of training content to ensure that the learning material is outcome based or linked to required operational applications

• Participate in the improvement on assessment tools for the various assessment methods and guides to ensure relevance and compliance to VACS standards within area of responsibility
• Stay informed on subject matters within area of responsibility i.e., Wetmill, Drymill, Kilns, safety, driver interventions and furniture making or Timber structures
• Meet monthly with the Senior Practitioner: Processing & Apprentices to discuss the training program and all related matters, including safety
• Provide support to other Training Instructors as appropriate
• Ensure the training & assessment documents are duly completed, moderated, and signed
• Submit moderated documents to the Training Administrator to be captured and filed for record and reporting purposes
• Monitor any vehicles used during training in accordance with Company policy
• Submit monthly progress report to the Senior Practitioner: Processing & Apprentices
Minimum Requirements
• National Diploma in Wood Technology
• Assessor Certificate
• B-Tech Degree in Wood Technology – will be an added advantage
• Facilitator Certificate – will be an added advantage
• 2 - 3 year’s Training & Development environment experience
• Sawmilling environment experience – will be an added advantage
• Ability to facilitate & assess – will be an added advantage
• Understanding of Skills Development Legislation and relevant Acts – will be an added advantage
• Valid driver’s license
