SENIOR PRACTITIONER: PROCESSING & APPRENTICES

Reporting Line: Senior Manager: Learning & Development
Role Mandate
To facilitate and coordinate Processing Technical training programs, Learnerships, Skills programs & other short courses within area of responsibility. Build and improve employees & other Learner’s competency levels in accordance with Company policies, procedures, standards & safety regulations and meet Company training requirements.
Key Accountabilities
• Conduct training needs analyses within designated area of responsibility at the beginning of each year, working in collaboration with the plantations, Training Administrator & Senior Training Practitioners
• Ensure training needs identified are addressed through development & implementation of appropriate course material aligned to operational requirements & training needs
• Develop career paths for Processing and management roles
• Coordinate interventions, such as the World of Work program including procurement of training provider, customisation of course material & training delivery
• Evaluate effectiveness & training provided and review training, when necessary, in collaboration with stakeholders and management
• Identify opportunities for improvement in practices & recommend appropriate action
• Ensure Supervisors and Managers are made aware of issues raised at workshops & training programs and provide means to resolve these with them
• Improve network to build strong partnerships to improve on delivery of learning & development objectives
• Oversee development of internal training & learnership programs and initiatives within area of responsibility to meet assessed needs

• Ensure scheduling performed by the Training Administrator is aligned to the relevant Training Instructors competency and skills base
• Facilitate, moderate & assess training interventions of employees and perform re-assessments
• Ensure pre & post-training evaluation is conducted and documented before & after training occurs
• Evaluate effectiveness & training by Training Instructors
• Ensure training & assessment records are updated, generate monthly reports, and ensure that these contain all relevant information for the personal files
• Investigate Learnership opportunities that are likely to benefit the Company & recommend to management
• Develop, plan, implement & administrate Learnerships within allocated area of responsibility
• Facilitate, moderate & assess training interventions of learners in community training
• Ensure successful completion of agreed Learnerships scheduled for the year
• Monitor number of enrolment of learnerships from adjacent communities
• Facilitate verification of Learnerships by the line function Seta
• Compile and submit MOA & FP & M Seta and register learners & finalise Learnership agreements with them
• Submit quarterly progress reports to FM & M Seta in collaboration with Company Skills & Development Facilitator
• Develop and implement learning pathways as required & GETC qualifications for community training
• Develop, evaluate, and control quality of training programs & Training Instructors according to accepted standards & Company policies, procedures & safety regulations
• Review technical courses within area of responsibility aligned to business requirements
• Participate in the development, revision, and implementation of training & development policies & procedures
• Oversee training content, training outlines & determine if theoretical and practical instructional methodologies & formats are appropriate and meet the overall training goals
• Make recommendation to change in instructional objectives & methods and submit changes for approval, as required
• Meet monthly with Training Instructor to discuss the training program & all related matters, including safety
• Provide leadership, guidance & supervision to the instructor team, as appropriate to ensure specific training program objectives are met ensure Training Instructors are proficient & consistent
• Submit quarterly reports to SM: L&D
• Monitor vehicles used by the Training Instructor in accordance with Company policy
• Attend monthly Training Centre meeting
• Advertise & recruit Apprentices from adjacent communities
• Develop & implement training plans of Apprentices for each trade
• Co-ordinate Apprentice development programme for the Company with accredited service providers
• Monitor training intervention & provide management with progress reports

Minimum Requirements
• B-Tech Degree in Wood Technology
• Facilitator Certificate
• Assessor & Moderator Certificates – will be an added advantage
• 3 - 5 year’s Training & Development environment experience
• Sawmilling experience – will be an added advantage
• Understanding of Skills Development Legislation & relevant Acts
• Understanding of Learning Framework in South Africa – will be an added advantage
• Valid driver’s license
