Role Mandate
To facilitate and coordinate Forestry Technical training programs, Learnerships, skills programs and other short courses within area of responsibility and to build and improve employees, communities, and learner’s competency levels in accordance with SAFCOL’s policies, procedures, standards, and safety regulations.

Role Mandate
To facilitate and coordinate Forestry Technical training programs, Learnerships, skills programs and other short courses within area of responsibility and to build and improve employees, communities, and learner’s competency levels in accordance with SAFCOL’s policies, procedures, standards, and safety regulations.
Key Accountabilities
• Conduct training needs analyses within designated area of responsibility at the beginning of each year working in collaboration with the plantations, training Administrator and training Practitioners
• Ensure that training needs identified are addressed through development and implementation of appropriate course material and aligned to operational requirements and training needs
• Develop the Skills Development Framework for roles within area of responsibility
• Develop career paths for forestry and management roles
• Coordinate interventions, such as the World of Work program, including procurement of training provider, customisation of course material and training delivery
• Evaluate effectiveness and training provided and review training, when necessary in collaboration with stakeholders and management
• Identify opportunities for improvement in practices and recommend appropriate action
• Ensure supervisors and managers are made aware of issues raised at workshops and training programs and provide interventions to resolve such issues timeously
• Improve network to build strong partnerships to improve on the delivery of learning and development objectives
• 100% achievement of Shareholder Compact programmes

• Ensure scheduling performed by the training Administrator is aligned to the relevant Instructor’s competency and skills base
• Facilitate, moderate, and assess training interventions of employees as well as perform re-assessments
• Ensure pre and post-training evaluation is conducted and documented before and after training occurs
• Evaluate effectiveness and training provided by the Instructors
• Ensure training and assessment records are updated, generate monthly reports, and ensure these contain all relevant information for the personal files
• Investigate Learnership opportunities that are likely to benefit SAFCOL and recommend these to management
• Develop, plan, implement and administrate the Learnerships within allocated area of responsibility
• Facilitate, moderate, and assess training interventions of learners in community training
• Ensure successful completion of the agreed Learnerships scheduled for the year
• Monitor the number of enrolment of Learnerships from adjacent communities
• Facilitate the verification of Learnerships by the line function SETA
• Compile and submit the MOA and FP and M SETA and register learners and finalise the Learnership agreements
• Submit quarterly progress reports to FP and M SETA in collaboration with the Senior Practitioner: Skills Development Facilitation
• Develop and implement learning pathways as required and GETC qualifications for community training
• Develop, evaluate, and control the quality of the training programs and the Instructors according to accepted standards and SAFCOL’s policies, procedures, and safety regulations
• Review technical courses within area of responsibility aligned to business requirements
• Participate in the development, revision and implementation of training & development policies and procedures
• Oversee training content, training outlines and determine if the theoretical and practical instructional methodologies and formats are appropriate and aligned to the overall training goals
• Make recommendation to change in instructional objectives and methods and submit changes for approval, as required
• Meet monthly with training Instructors to discuss the training program and all related matters, including safety
• Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the Instructor teams to ensure specific training program objectives are met and Instructors are proficient and consistent
• Submit quarterly reports to SM: Learning & Development
• Monitor the use of vehicles used by the training Instructors in accordance with SAFCOL’s policy
• Perform fire logistics duties during the fire season
• Facilitate, moderate, and assess training interventions of employees as well as perform re-assessments

Minimum Requirements
• National Diploma in Social Sciences /Forestry/ Education or equivalent relevant qualification
• ODETDP Certificate
• BTech Degree in Forestry – will be an added advantage
• Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in Forestry training & development environment
• Forestry experience to ensure awareness of SAFCOL’s working conditions – will be an added advantage
• Mechanised Harvesting Driver Operator, Harvester/Processor and/or Forwarder Operator working experience in a production environment – will be an added advantage
• Training experience as an Instructor in a Mechanised Harvesting environment – will be an added advantage
• Training experience in Skidders, Loggers, Tractors and Firefighting – will be an added advantage
• Valid driver’s license
