PROJECT MANAGER
Status: Fixed Term Contract (3 Years)
Location: Pretoria Office
Grade: D2
Reporting Line: Senior Manager: Special Projects & PMO
Role Mandate
To lead, manage and operationalize strategic projects that are aligned to the organisational strategy, which will enable the achievement of stated financial, sustainability and other strategic objectives. Contribute to the development and enhancement of project management capability within the organisation to ensure that projects are implemented and managed according to accepted methodology, methods, and standards.
Key Accountabilities
• Plan, manage and execute a portfolio of cross-functional projects that will contribute to the achievement of organisational strategic objectives
• Drive or contribute to the development of feasibility studies to assist with strategic project selection
• Develop and drive implementation of Strategic Projects Business Cases
• Contribute to execution of SAFCOL 50/50 Strategy
• Identify, cost, and propose the assignment of resources for execution of strategic projects
• Assist in the development of strategic proposals for investment based on approved feasibility studies/business cases
• Ensure all projects comply in terms of project governance requirements
• Provide guidance & support to project teams by building & motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities & project milestones
• Manage full project life-cycle ownership from idea generation to closure for one or several initiatives simultaneously
• Develop & manage all aspects of project management from planning, internal & external stakeholder relationships management, communications, resources, budget, change, risks, and issues
• Maintain the project management process flow to facilitate the implementation of projects according to an agreed framework
• Develop and set project quality standards for each project
• Establish, implement, and report on metrics that measure project performance
• Monitor and control implementation of strategic projects according to accepted standards and agreed upon metrics
• Monitor, track, and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies, and critical path deliverables
• Provide project management advice, direction, and support on strategic projects
• Develop and maintain a Strategic Projects Balanced Scorecard/Dashboard
• Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations to various audiences, including project team, sponsors, senior and executive management, Board, and key stakeholders related to strategic project management
• Facilitate effective project communication throughout the organisation
• Contribute to maintaining an organisational strategic project register
• Develop organisational project management process assets, including templates, methodology, process flow and procedures
• Train business units in project management methodology
• Provide project management support to assist business units in the successful implementation of projects
• Perform periodic project reviews
• Provide project start-up support and mentoring, and identify, capture, and disseminate project best practices
• Develop, implement, and maintain a Stakeholder Management Strategy for each strategic project
• Develop, oversee, and continuously update the Strategic Projects Stakeholder Map
• Analyse stakeholder requirements and expectations and develop engagement strategies accordingly
• Set and continually manage project expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders
• Stay abreast of dynamic changes in the project environment
Minimum Requirements
• A Degree in Engineering or relevant (NQF 7) qualification
• Appropriate Professional Accreditation/Certification in Project Management, e.g., PMP, PRINCE 2
• Advanced Degree in Engineering (NQF 8) – will be an added advantage
• A minimum of 5 years of executing Projects/Strategic Projects in a technical environment
• Valid driver’s license
