ICT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Reporting Line: Manager: ICT Operations
 
Role Mandate
Respond to, and provide resolution to, incidents involving information and communication systems and related equipment used at the workplace by providing assistance to users to enable them to make effective use of such systems and equipment.

Key Accountabilities
• Install all desktop and laptop computers and ensure their effective functioning
• Upgrade computers where required
• Configure and setup e-mail functionality on business cell phones
• Troubleshoot faulty cable switches and log calls with suppliers
• Configure and troubleshoot faults with telephone system
• Perform hardware troubleshooting and advise on solutions
• Provide routine advice to users on systems, products and services that are available to them
• Provide an effective interface between users and service providers, including documenting problems, progress checking, and ensuring all diagnostic information is provided for error resolution and incident analysis
• Assist users to make more effective use of desktop systems, products & services, making initial diagnosis of problems and advising known solutions, where applicable
• For all products, services and systems within own area of responsibility, demonstrates, installs, and commissions desktop systems and their routine upgrades
• Provide information on updates, known errors, changes in availability, new facilities
• Perform site visits to do maintenance, diagnoses and repairs
• Provide network access to all users
• Monitor and advise staff on security breaches and password statuses
• Provide network accounts and passwords
• Provide training to users as requested
• Load all required business software and applications
• Perform software troubleshooting
• Check that all applications and operating systems are working effectively
• Check that all applications are up to date
• Check that all security software are installed and up to date
• Install and maintain camera infrastructure
• Install and maintain wireless Access Points
• Perform 3G connections
• Perform VPN setups and connections
• Provide network troubleshooting and solutions
• Run network cables and make fly-leads as required
• Setup and maintain all network peripherals
 
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) (NQF 6)
• A+
• N+
• Degree in Information and Communication Technology (NQF 7) - will be an added advantage
• Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) - will be an added advantage
• Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Desktop Administrator on Windows (MCSA) Or Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (CCNA) - will be an added advantage
• 2 years’ experience in A+ and N+
• 2-3 years’ experience in Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)
• 2 - 3 years’ experience in ICT User/Desktop Support function
• Valid driver’s license
