MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide a newsgathering service that identifies and break news stories, by managing, assigning, briefing and debriefing of reporters on the news content
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Continually identify and initiate key Radio and TV news stories.
  • Plan, organise and co-ordinate the national and regional radio news diary and attend editorial meetings.
  • Monitor the production, editorial content and progress of stories throughout the day in consultation with journalists and technical staff (Traffic and sound desk).
  • Ensure that journalists break stories and deliver them on deadline.
  • Continually brief and debrief journalists on editorial content of news stories and requirements.
  • Assign journalists according to their skills, strengths and competence to report on a news story.
  • Provide quality control function for focus, script and sound in the production of news stories.
  • Cost effectively manage and utilise the editorial budget.
  • Manage and monitor timeous authorisation of payments, complying with SABC policies (Independent Contractor and additional work).
  • Proper utilization of the budget by monitoring and reporting expenditure variance.
  • Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution, all broadcasting and other legislation, Icasa regulations, the BCCSA Code of Conduct, SABC editorial policies and radio news and current affairs style guide etc.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Monitor execution of internal risk audits and address gaps.
  • Liaise with senior editorial team members, technical support, Station management, regarding specific needs and requirements
  • Contact team members directly to verify news angles, content and meaning.
  • Handling of enquiries and complaints.
  • Liaise with external stakeholder e.g. government, other News maker.
  • Contract and manage the SABC’s Performance Management System with the team in accordance with the organizational policy and procedures.
  • Manage available staff and ensure fair and balanced distribution of work.
  • Guide team members with the best and most effective on air presentation/ delivery and correct pronunciation.
  • Discuss and assess the training needs of team members and compile Personal Development Plans (PDP) for learning and development to implement.
  • Carry out reasonable duties, on behalf of the National editor that may be required to ensure that SABC Radio and TV News and Current Affairs operate and perform effectively and efficiently.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • National Diploma / Degree in Journalism or Media Studies or equivalent qualification (NQF6/7)
  • 8 years editorial and writing experience
  • Understanding of regulations and legislation impacting broadcasting.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Radio News and/or Current Affairs production processes.

Main purpose of position

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
To develop and implement a programme strategy aligned with Channel strategy, specifying the acquisition, commissioning and production of international and local programmes to meet SABC mandate and channel requirements to target audiences that inform, educate and entertain.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Develop and Implement Programming & Acquisition strategy, leveraging scheduling data and research, in line with the bouquet positioning, Video Entertainment strategy and goals.

  • Liaise with Product Managers regarding potential sponsorships opportunities within programmes.
  • Accurate and consistent usage of all sales management systems e.g CRM & SAP to manage the sales processes end to end.
  • Compile the quarterly reviews and negotiation documentation, on client history in preparation for reviews or negotiations.
  • Planning and Optimisation for clients upon request on available industry related planning and buying tools.
  • Provide feedback to Senior Management & Client monthly with regards to tracking of commitments
  • Update clients through proposals and presentations regarding opportunities.
  • Follow up on all correspondence from clients and adherence to deadlines.
  • Compile all Submissions and Term Sheets within respective portfolios as well as manage the long form contract process.
  • Update electronic contracts register/commitment book monthly.
  • Sound administration as well as weekly and monthly status reporting.
  • Conduct a minimum number of client visits as agreed with respective line Manager
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Maintain after sales service by following up to ensure client satisfaction and future business within an agreed time frame directed by senior management.
  • Prepare the Deal Evaluation, business case and secure approval.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A relevant degree or diploma, (Sales/ Communication/ Marketing/other relevant preferable); and/ or
  • Supplementary Media, Digital, Sales, and other relevant training courses and certificates; and
  • 6-8 years of sales/ sales management experience, (media sales preferable)
  • Proven track record in media sales
  • Knowledge and experience in integrated / digital sales solutions would be advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s license & own transport.

Purpose

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
  • Instruct technical assistant as to assistance required.
  • Gather all necessary tools, equipment and materials.
  • Transport tools, equipment and materials to worksite.
  • Assemble and dismantle scaffolding as needed.
  • Prepare tools, equipment and materials for use,
  • Build according to set standard plan.
  • Clean up worksite.
  • Return all tools and equipment to builder’s stores.
  • Report unsatisfactory conditions to supervisor.
  • Discuss problems encountered with supervisor and resolve them as instructed.

MAIN  PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To provide technical and operational support in ensuring high quality news and current affairs output in accordance with SABC News editorial objectives and the public mandate
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Provide input in the development and formulation of news and current affairs resources plan.
  • Develop a coherent news infrastructure plan to support the region to deliver on its mandate.
  • Ensure effective and efficient deployment of resource for news production in accordance with editorial requirements.
  • Ensure that all news production equipment and property is always fully functional.
  • Report any faulty equipment and ensure that it is repaired/replaced timeously.
  • Book and co-ordinate all line feeds and live crossings as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • National Diploma/ Degree in Journalism with news technology as a major/Information Technology or Sound Engineering or equivalent qualification. 
  • 6 years’ proven experience in a multimedia news broadcasting environment of which 3 years should be at supervisory level.
  • Well-developed understanding of news processing technology understanding.
