MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
To identify, initiate, research, plan and record relevant material in the Silozi language, to produce news reports that are informative, accurate, entertaining and compelling to target audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be innovative, accurate and informative in current affairs production
  • Contribute to content for radio current affairs programmes
  • Initiate, brainstorm  and cover stories as assigned
  • Stay abreast of news events/developments nationally and internationally
  • Build contacts and networks
  • Conduct field, archive and other research
  • Conduct interviews for broadcast, when necessary
  • Write, package and voice stories
  • Provide quality script and clear voice-overs, including to air
  • Obtain broadcast-quality sound using relevant recording equipment
  • Set up interviews for broadcast, including question-and-answer interviews
  • Conduct follow-up on stories through to broadcast
  • Package stories for current affairs programmes and news bulletins
  • Check facts, accuracy and quality of stories
  • Meet story deadlines
  • Maintain constant contact and communication with assigning producer/editor
  • Adhere to SABC editorial code and standard operating procedures
  • Deliver current affairs stories on time. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree/Diploma in journalism
  • 3 years’ experience in news reporting

UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Complete fluency in language of presentation, specifically in Silozi
  • Clear broadcast voice and language fluency
  • Good understanding of current trends in the social, economic and political environment on the African continent
  • Good news sense
  • Ability to work under pressure and for long, irregular hours
