FIXED TERM CONTRACT (FIVE YEARS)
MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To effectively manage the Sport division operations. To ensure the delivery of focused and quality sport programmes to South Africa. To ensure the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans in the division.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide focused, quality sport programmes to PBS and PCS for broadcasting on Radio and TV
- Provide focused direction to the Sport division in Strategic development and implementation
- Building and maintaining effective, client focused strategic partnerships with PBS and PCS
- Interpretation and application of the SABC Editorial Code and Policy in accordance with the SABC vision, mission and values
- Provide a cost-effective and timely sport service to the SABC
- Negotiation of sport contracts within the mandate and corporate strategy as determined from time to time by the SABC
- Ensure compliance with the SABC policies and procedures
- Monitor and report on the operational risks and compliance
- Monitor the execution of audit risks and address the gaps
- Implement internal control measures to ensure good governance and compliance
- Provide and maintain an integral sports networking system
- Plan, develop, direct operations of all the facets of the Sport Division efficiently
- Provide accurate reports reflecting the challenges and achievements of the business unit objectives
- Monitor and ensure the right mix of Sport programmes is commissioned within the available funding and at the right price at the time of acquiring such rights
- Monitor the performance of current Sport programmes by reviewing audience figures
- Manage profitability and drive towards self-sufficiency in the context of mandate obligations and Board policy
- Ensure alignment and synergy between platforms with respect to scheduling, programming, marketing and financial management
- Ensure that all programmes and rights comply with commercial, contractual, ICASA, platform and mandate obligations
- Build a capable Sport team in the form of skilled people in all areas and with effective, sound business processes in place
- The effective integration, utilization and allocation of all resources in the day to day operations of Sport
- Drive, inspire and direct the journalist corps
- Research and implement relevant sport global best practices
- Accountability for the cost-effective utilisation of the Sport budget
- Ensure that the operational budget is managed to prevent wasteful expenditure
- Manage Performance in accordance with organizational policy and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- B. Degree or Honours Degree in Sport Management or Honours Degree in Business Administration
- 8 – 10 Years experience in the sports environment in a managerial capacity

- 4 – 5 Years experience in the corporate business or broadcasting environment
