Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a newly established university providing holistic Health Sciences education, and is situated at Ga-Rankuwa. The following position(s) is currently available.
Clinical Skills Facilitator (4 posts)
(5 Year Fixed Term Contract)
Ref: 35/2019/RM/P8
This position requires a registered nurse and midwife with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as experience in teaching of nursing simulation related skills in the Department of Nursing Science: School of Health Care Sciences. The candidate will report to the HOD and will furthermore meet the requirements, competencies and be responsible for the key performance areas listed below:
REQUIREMENTS
A Master’s degree in Nursing with specialization in a clinical area e.g., ICU, Paediatric Nursing
Four (4) years’ experience as a registered nurse practitioner and instructor of clinical skills
Current registration with the South African Nursing Council
Experience in the supervision of students in the clinical field
Experience in using a simulation facility
Record keeping as required by SANC
Proven computer literacy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to communicate in English verbally and in written form and respond clearly, creatively, and decisively to enquiries
Deadline driven, ability to multi-task, organized, plan and work under pressure

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Assist in the students’ registration at the University and at the South African Nursing Council at all the stages of the students’ training
Lead the placement timetable of students to ensure that this complies with the South African Nursing Council requirement
Develop the study material and workbook for skills training
Keep a viable, collegial and professional relationship with the preceptors in the clinical facilities
Keep abreast with the teaching and developments of clinical skills in the simulation room and in the facility
Book and prepare teaching venues in the skills centre in line with the time tables
Teach/demonstrate/simulate clinical skills to students at all levels when required
Follow up and supervise students every time they are in the practice area to comply with Gauteng Department of Health stipulation and the South African Nursing Council requirements
Keep records of students' activities and movements whilst in the clinical area
Prepare for and conduct formative and summative assessments for all levels relating to clinical skills
Liaise with the Department of Nursing Science at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University to upload student information related to clinical skills:
- Record of placement
- Record of attendance
- Record of time spent at clinical
- Any record that impacts on the students clinical practice
Handle/refer students’ problems appropriately
Conduct other duties as shall be allocated by the HOD.
