TICKET SALES OFFICER X 8 
R12 101.80 per month 
3 MONTHS CONTRACT 
 
The above-mentioned positions are available in the Operations Department at Robben Island Museum. 
The incumbent will be responsible to manage and facilitate the issuing of concession and complimentary tickets, compiling of reports thereon, assisting the ticket sales manager with customer care and certain supervisory responsibilities. 
 
Key performance areas: 
  • Attending to queries from concession groups regarding concession requests; 
  • Attending to queries from school groups regarding concession requests; 
  • Communicating and inform concession groups of progress of request; 
  • Attending to queries for staff members regarding nil value tickets; 
  • Communicating and inform staff members of progress of request; 
  • Requesting approvals from the appropriate senior managers as per the policies and procedures; 
  • Building and maintaining a database of parties that have previously requested and have received complimentary (nil value) and concession rate (reduced rate) tickets; 
  • Using database to validate requests received from concession and nil rate requesters;
  • Receiving concession requests from concession groups and schools; 
  • Using database to validate requests received from concession requesters; 
  • Completing the concession request form with all the relevant details from the request; 
  • Obtaining approval from the relevant senior manager in writing to approve the request; 
  • Communicating with requester whether tickets have been approved or rejected; 
  • Preparing a pro forma invoice for the concession group or school and make a provisional booking on the POS system; 
  • Sending pro forma invoice and supporting request and approval forms to internal control for validation; 
  • Sending approved pro forma invoice to the requesting group or school; 
  • Providing the Supervisor with the proof of payment to perform EFT validation on the system; 
  • Sending the ticket reference number to the requesting group or school; 
  • Receiving HOD approved complimentary (nil value) ticket approval from requesting party; 
  • Using database to validate requests received from nil rate requesters; 
  • Obtaining approval from the relevant senior manager in writing to approve the request; 
  • Communicating with requester whether tickets have been approved or rejected; 
  • Making a provisional booking on the POS system; 
  • Sending the ticket reference number to the requester; 
  • Drawing system report on all reduced rate and nil value tickets issued from the system on a monthly basis; 
  • Reviewing all transactions and ensure that each transaction is appropriately approved and supported by approval forms; 
  • Identifying and investigate exceptions; 
  • Prepare a monthly summary of all nil and reduced rate tickets issued; 
  • Providing report and supporting files for Finance review; 
  • Preparing monthly sales statistics; 
  • Identifying, investigate and report instances of suspicious and fraudulent activities; 
  • Providing feedback to service providers (POS system) on services rendered; 
  • Identifying any issues related to the service provided and professionally resolve issues with service providers; 
  • Meeting with POS service providers on a regular basis to discuss and resolve system enhancements, modifications and issues experienced; 
  • Commenting current practices and efficiency thereof; 
  • Recommending changes and amendments to policies, procedures and systems; 
  • Attending to website and email queries from customers regarding bookings; 
  • Assisting as and when required, the Events, Marketing and Tours Departments to perform group bookings; 
  • Corresponding with customers/groups which pay via EFT; 
  • Attending to customer complaints; 
  • Attending to customer queries relating to refunds; 
  • Recording customer complaints on a log and present cases to the CFO and Marketing Department on a weekly basis; 
  • Performing any ad hoc tasks as required by the Ticket Sales Manager.
 
Minimum Requirements: 
  • National Diploma in Events, Tourism or Marketing; 
  • Good Computer and spreadsheet skills (VB macro skills in excel aa distinct advantage); 
  • Knowledge of automated reconciliation;

Responsibilities:

The above-mentioned positions are available in the Public Heritage Education Department at Robben Island Museum. 
The incumbent will be responsible to relate the multi-layered history of Robben Island Museum in a coherent, professional manner to visitors. In addition, the incumbent will conduct research about the history of Robben Island Museum in the context of the history of SA and the world and combine the information in a story that gives visitors, to the island, an opportunity to recognise and acknowledge Robben Island’s socio-political history in relation to its natural and built environment. 
 
Key performance areas: 
  • Refer to the tour schedule to obtain tour times and numbers of visitors 
  • Verify the appropriate vehicle and driver are available, check tour guide equipment, 
  • Acquaint the tourist with the tour structure, amenities and rules and regulations of RIM; 
  • Conduct the tour of Robben Island Museum highlighting information related to political history, history of the prison, history of the built and natural environment. 
  • Contextualise the history of the world and relate it to the history of Robben Island; 
  • Manage stops during the tour. 
  • Search for the information relating to Robben Island history and political issues; 
  • Participate in discussions, forums, meetings and training sessions within or outside Robben Island Museum;

MASTER PORTS OPERATION X 1

The above-mentioned position is available in the Ferry Operations Department at Robben- Island Museum. 
The purpose of the job is to manage and command the operation, maintenance and the crew of the vessels to ensure passengers, cargo and vessel safety are to improve the efficiency of the marine transport system. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • In command of the vessel ensuring safe navigation following all the VTS and Port regulations; 
  • Ensure that all navigational equipment is fully operational and in good working order prior to departure and while in-route. 
  • Ensure that the crew are fully familiarised with their duties including use of LSA and FFE equipment and vessel emergency procedures; 
  • Ensure that all passengers are safe and comfortable at all times; 
  • Ensure the weather conditions are always monitored and report to the Harbour Master. 
  • Ensure safety and proper stowage of all cargo on board; 
  • Ensure that proper record keeping is carried out (Both OLB & Daily Logbook) as required by SAMSA and the Merchant Shipping Act; 
  • Ensure that all vessel and crew certificates are valid and that the vessel is seaworthy and complies with SAMSA and/or Classification Society regulations at all times; 
  • Ensure that the maintenance plan is followed and all records are made including reporting of defects to the Unit Managers; 
  • Carry out conflict resolution amongst the crew on board and report to the Unit Managers of any disciplinary actions required; 
  • Ensure that regular drills, toolbox talks and safety training sessions are carried out and recorded. 
 
Qualification and Experience - minimum requirements: 
  • Minimum: Master (Port Operations) Certificate of Competence or equivalent or higher as issued by SAMSA. 
  • Master Coastal. Certificate of Competence or equivalent or higher. Competency must be relevant for Port Operations. 
  • Must have 2 years' experience on twin-screw vessels 
  • STCW and other certificates as follows: 
  • (Preference may be given to candidates who have certificates as per the Manila 2010 amendments)

Responsibilities:
  • Welcome visitors/tourists at the RIM Information Office and Murray’s Harbour; 
  • Receive and refer request from various sources telephonically and/or via e-mail; 
  • Dispense information on tourism services and products offered at RIM and elsewhere in the Western Cape; 
  • Assist with facilitating the visits from schools; 
  • Assist visitors with the use of the technical facilities of the Exhibitions e.g. Touch Screens; 
  • Collect and register lost and found property; 
  • Make announcements on boarding and departure; 
  • Ensure electronic information board is updated; 
  • Assist visitors with special needs e.g. wheelchairs, prams;

BUS DRIVER X 4

The above positions are available in the Visitor Infrastructure and Facilities Management (IFM) at Robben Island Museum. The purpose of the job was to assist in transporting visitors and residents to and from the prison and around the island, shuttling residents from the harbour to their place of residence in the village on the island, driving the bus, and being able to sleep over on the Island and be able to work shifts. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Transporting visitors and residents following a pre-planned route to a definite schedule. 
  • Regulating heating equipment and ventilation of the bus for the comfort of passengers. 
  • Driving bus carefully and in compliance with National Roads Traffic Acts and regulations. 
  • Assuming responsibility for the safety of visitors in loading, unloading, and transporting them to and from various sites. 
  • Conducting vehicle inspection daily and filling the inspection form with the transport unit 
  • Checking water, fuel, oil, and mechanical conditions before leaving on the run. 
  • Keeping operational records and making simple reports. 
  • Reporting defects or problems with the vehicle to the supervisor /unit manager. 
  • Adhering to maintenance schedule instructions. 
  • Reporting delays or accidents. 
  • Signing logbook at all times to keep operational records 
  • Assisting passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off the bus, ensuring they are seated properly. 
  • Keeping passengers clued up on likely delays. 
  • Check wheel ramps all the time to help disabled customers as and when required. 
  • Be able to sleep over on the Island when required 
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the /supervisor unit manager 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Grade 10-12. 
  • 5 years of verifiable driving experience on light and heavy vehicles. 
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations. 
  • Valid unendorsed driver’s license (EC1 or EC) with valid PDP.
